SkiKing gets the cigar!
The glacier picture is indeed Iceland. It is a shot of Vatnajökull, taken from near the SE corner of the island.www.vatnajokull.com/about.html
It is HUGE - larger than the combined size of all the glaciers in the Alps. You can stand directly above an active volcano that erupted just a few years ago. Fortunately, since you are insulated by several hundred meters of ice, you probably have a good fraction of an hour to get out of harms way before any new eruption melts through. Its a great place for snow sports ranging from snowmobiles to XC skiing to dogsledding. There is a summer alpine skiing camp located in the middle of nowhere on it, but not much commercial skiing of "our kind" in Iceland - there just isn't that much vertical in places people can reasonably get to in the winter.
With respect to the 2nd picture, Fredskier came very close with Boreas Pass near Breck. Its actually Hoosier Pass, 10 or so miles in the other direction (south) from Breck.
Jake - Thanks & good hearing from you again. I presume you are getting ready for your first semester. Hope all is going well. Your 9.16's are standing at the ready, waiting to make some turns.
