Can anyone recommend a decent place for a few nights for a couple people near Sunday River? Also, is there any cross country skiing near by? Thanks!

Inn at Rostay is nice, not too expensive, and has a very nice breakfast included. Red building, think it has a raccoon or something like it on the sign.

Yes, there is XC in the area but I don't XC so I don't know the details. I know I've driven by a few places.

The Mollyockett: Here - A good and cheap motel real close to the river. You can also arrive at anytime day or night. This has been discussed before - do a quick search and you'll find some more places.

XC on property. Inn with various room types. 1 min drive to SR's Whitecap base lodge. Snow last week had XC in fairly good shape, but rain Saturday night compacted snow and warm/cold temps are working their spring "magic". Predicting 5-10" new snow for this weekend.

Snow Cap Inn/Dorm is on property for SR and has rates as low as $25-35/night I've been told (dorm mid week).

Norseman Inn (www.norsemaninn.com) between Bethel and SR is another inn/B&B option on the more economical side. 5 min to SR

Chapman Inn (www.chapmaninn.com) in Bethel is often talked about for low rates (sub $100) and decent rooms. 5-10 min to SR.

Haven't stayed at any of them, so can't give you specifics. Lots of other choices in the area - dorm to super luxe.

Many trails in the area for XC or showshoe - some of the larger trail networks and distance from SR: Grafton Notch/Appalachian Trail (30 min), Evans Notch/White Mtns (20 min), Pinkham Notch/Mt. Washington (40 min)

Have fun!

I highly recommend The Pleasant River Motel in West Bethel. Very Clean and inexpensive. I paid $70 per night for 6 nights. The rooms have a micro and small fridge. 800-847-7786. 10 minutes to Sunday River, 40 to Wildcat or Bretton Woods.
