I meant what I said when I wrote:
I'd bet the ES Community $1000 that I could pick a self-taught teenage skateboarder who has never skied, have him take ski lessons with a good ski pro like Harb, Clendenin or Gurshman, and see the kid, after 6 weeks, beat any of the recent MA skiers both through the GS gates and free skiing.
Of course, the ES Community would have to come up with enough dough to buy the kid a ski outfit, get him full gear (including GS and All-Mountain skis, and custom fitted boots), get him a ski pass to a resort where he could get the good lessons, and pay the pro his standard fee for 3 lessons a week.
Like they say: money talks and bullshit walks.
And would that 6 week bet include Max_501? If so, I would probably take that bet (but not fund the experiment). There are certain things you learn with experience and trail and error that can't be coached. Chances are that skateboarder's motivation, confidence, and overall athletic conditioning would be the key factors in how good they ended up.
