Spindrift what are you doing? Trying to test the qualifications of one of the most qualified people who is both able and willing to assist the rest of us here at Epic?
Your kidding, right?
Based on your criteria, anyone who boasts of meeting the above challenge, and your standards is "qualified".
Sierrajim provides quality logic & empathy, along with more industry experience than you and 99.9% of skiers will ever have. This should (and does) speak for itself!
However, neither being a great guy nor a gazillion years of being in the business makes someone automatically right. It provides some background, but if the goal of this place was to put people on a pedestal, well then we could simply shut this place down and send everyone over to that other site to worship that other guy.
Sierra Jim's consistent bias toward skinnier skis is quite striking to me. There may be good reasons for it - but they are reasons based on who he is, and his experience. Not absolutes.
I know other people with credibility in the industry whose opinions differ from Jim's - and who ride fatter skis almost exclusively. And not because of fads or a need to impress the ladies. In addition, I've played with a decent number of skis 105 and fatter this season myself - and I'm fully aware that my opinions are formed based on who I am, the terrain I ski and the snow I ski. And I also know that many of the skis SJ likes are skis I'll never set foot in. To each their own... But the surest way to have this place sink into oblivion is to play the local celebs can't be wrong game.
My comments are at least based on experience with most of the skis I discuss. And I try to be clear when I'm speculating. Can the folks on the other side of the debate in this thread say the same?
