better yet, Do fat skis need edges?

You left out the "i don't know anything about mid-fats, don't own them, don't use them so I know they are no good guy." OOPs, that might be you.

I have a patrol friend who explained to me how those fatties were just for people who can afford to heli-ski but can't ski. I thought about bringing him to the party, and you are right , I was remiss in leaving that view out. Well, we got most of them.

Good summary. I personally think your testicle post was the post of the thread!

I want a charger ski for next year.

shoulda I get 190 Katanas or 190 Sumos?

I own 179 PEs and 183 Gotamas.

Katana's cause they're new and cool. Get the 197's though, it proves the size of your testicles.

You guys, left out the gal with a midfat who thinks adding a midfat to the quiver is a good start.

Fat skis are fat skis, there are no differences in camber, sidecut, or construction to be considered. The newer model gets +++ points, an aggressive name like "Katana" gets +++ points, but at the end of the day it really comes down to how you like the topsheet.

A serious person might ask what charging really means to you. Surfy or straight? Switch? How much slackcountry? How big is big? Have you considered which ski will do better at railroad tracks on lower Big Emma? Is Bode skiing Volkls? If not, what is Head making? That type of thing.

Actually, I still own a pair of "mid-fats" from the late 90's. But you're right - I don't use them anymore.

No big loss. He qualifies as "industry professional who is therefor infallible" guy. His opinion is valid, tho - Jeremy Nobis is a complete gaper.

Thanks - I put a lot of effort into that one!

My response: Having no experience besides hand-flexing the Sumos and looking at the Katanas in a lift-line, I'd say go with the Katanas. The Sumos are as soft as a Sanouk. Great powder ski, but not really a charging ski.

And here are a bunch of other responses:

-stick with your Gotama's - they're more than enough ski.

-Hey there bushwhacker man dont get either of those poser sticks there for sheople bro posers ok.

-I'd recommend a Volkl AC4. The Katana and Sumo are very good skis, but are a chore in bumps and ice.

-I back up the previous poster. He's an industry insider and knows what he's talking about.

-Those skis are yesterday's news. Get some Capital G-Funkenstiens.

-New skis are for sucks. The last pair of skis I bought were Volkl Super G's in 1992. You kids and your crutch skis these days...:

-I "charged" once - I must have been going over 15 mph down an early Ballroom line. Skinny rentals worked great!

-I'd get both. The Katana for fast charging and the Sumo for medium charging. You can never have enough skis! I own 67 pairs and switch them out every run!

-What edge bevel are you going to run on the Katana?

-Do you use pole straps?

-I'm lost - can anybody direct me to NAMBLA's web site?

You'd be included in "conservative guys (gals)". Politics notwithstanding.

So many powder options to consider now, my head is boiling. To calm myself down I went onto ebay.de and picked up some brand new GS12s for 100euros with 21 seconds left on the clock...someone in the shop must have taken their coffee break at the wrong time...they're absolutely fuming! Hey, this quiver building isn't proving so expensive after all!

Interestingly, Mikka Makkaleinenssen of NorskFloat, in Northern Finland, sells detatchable seal bone '+wings' for the GS12s, which increases their surface area by some 4500%. He doesn't have a website, just some GPS co-ordinates...um...can't lay my hands on them right now...get back to you when I find them.

Why do you insist on writing with such annoying affectation? It's not interesting. It's not artistic. It's just annoying. Why?

0'berhardFranz owns this style on TGR.

I'm here to post a picture of me on short (168 cm) skinny (68mm) skis in deep powder, just to let all you posers know that this thread is now a 10.

I'm so glad I don't have to lean back like this anymore

nice shot.

but as somebody who "struggled" through pow on 198 7S's for years (and loved it nonetheless since I didn't know I was "struggling") and recently discovered the joy of fats (The Spatula), I can say I ain't ever going back to skinny's on deep, mildly deep or even quasi deep days.

ramshackle's style is mildly amusing, as long as you don't have to read too much of it. O'berhardFranz, on the other hand, is a complete genius. His art will never be fully appreciated until long after he's left this mortal coil.

To sum it up:
ramshackle = a dozen "diet pills"
O'berhardFranz = 1600 micrograms of pure LSD

Did a comma stole your lunchbox when you was a kid ?

You're such a pain to read. And not even worthing it.

my brain is much bigger than the size of my balls. why dont you get the 197s to prove your manness.

Surfy or straight? both

Switch? very little I have the gotamas to ski pwoder switch

How much slackcountry? some

How big is big? 190 is about the biggest I have been able to handle in the past and adds enough stabilty to go REALLY fast everywhere

Have you considered which ski will do better at railroad tracks on lower Big Emma? nope but if i can lay it up on edge a get something on groomers even if only going really fast that would be plus for me. short turns need not apply(except in powder)

Is Bode skiing Volkls? If not, what is Head making? That type of thing. could care less

I'd get both. The Katana for fast charging and the Sumo for medium charging. You can never have enough skis! I own 67 pairs and switch them out every run!

this very well may happen but the sumos would be 175cm and basically a tree only ski for me. tons of cheap sumos in a 175 floating around here. I want some. Plus with demo bindings perfect ski to loan out to friends on powder days lots of different people could use that length and have fun on it.

You still didn't answer the pole strap question.
