Being the nice dad I let my 9 yr old daughter miss school yesterday to have a powder day with her dad. There was 2.5+ feet of new snow. We skied most of the day on untracked backside fluff. It was an incredible day. However my daughter had a difficult time staying on top of the snow. She kept sinking in up to her waist. What are your thoughts on kids using wide powder skis? My daughter has wanted some for a couple of years now. We were looking at some earlier this year and the guy at the local shop started laughing saying "now Ive seen everything, a nine year old on powder skis" He didn't seem to think it was a good thing. After yesterday I don't think I agree with him. While I don't think she would need to go really wide (100+) I think she could benifit from a wider ski. She is currently on Volkl supersport jr. She is an excellent skier. She started at 3 years old and has progressed though all the group lesson levels offered at the local mountain (level 1-6) and wants to begin racing next year. She really wants a pair of Sugar Daddies but I am thinking a softer Salomon may be better. Does anybody have kids in similar situations? Any suggestions?
