Hi folks,

Looking to plan a trip to USA or Canada in early December for my 30th Birthday. Where is likely to have most lifts open and best early snow.

I'm from Northern Ireland, usually ski in the Alps, but have skied Lake Louise and Sunshine in December before.

Early December?

Colorado - Breckenridge/Vail/Aspen
Utah - Snowbird...

Oh, and welcome to EpicSki, my friend!

If you're going mainly for skiing then go to Grand Targhee, Wyoming. Year after year they have the best early season coverage in the Rockies. Chances are good you'll have a couple powder days while there.

The downside to Targhee is you'll be staying in Driggs, Idaho which isn't a very lively town. It has some decent places to eat but not much nightlife.

A big plus is you'll be an hour from Jackson, Wyoming which has a wide variety of restaurants and bars. You'll also be close enough to Jackson Hole to ski there a couple days if they have decent coverage.

1. Search this forum. This question comes up every year.
2. Summit County, Colorado generally has the first resorts open in the US for the year and their snowmaking is excellent in case there's none of the natural stuff.
