Triple diamonds @ W/B!?

Hallo guys!
While studying flash-map of Spanky`s Ladder i noticed some chutes marked with triple black diamonds, e.g. Bad Attitude off Diamond Bowl.
I was really astonished since there was no clue for such designation in the trail map legend.
I can only guess what this might mean.... mb it`s just one more marketing trick?:
So to those in the know and having first hand experience with the mountain, what do u think triple blacks mean here?

They are the 'Real Deal'.

Its not a marketing trick. Triple blacks were actually introduced by the guys that wrote the guide to WB's expert terrain. I believe the picture you see is taken from that guide.

Runs marked triple diamond mean you will be skiing in no fall zones with a high potential for injury (or death) if you make an error. I don't have my copy handy, but BA is probably triple due to the exposed traverse across the cliff band to get to it; I don't think the skiing itself is actually that difficult.

If you are heading to WB, pick up the expert guide (in any ski shop). It is very handy to identify all of the issues you might encounter on a given run (i.e. scary entrances, mandatory air, cut bank hazards, rocks, etc). In addition, the guide fills in the map; a good deal of the runs in the guide aren't listed on any trail map.

Sure. BTW--"Those chutes go to 11" is a reference to "figure 11" or straight-line. I don't think its the case with BA, but there are certainly places at WB where you had better be prepared to point 'em.

Oh. I thought it was a reference to the immortal "This Is Spinal Tap" movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088258/quotes

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

Spinal Tap reference

Exactly. Glad someone got it. Some of those chutes are 11s compared to a lot of double blacks, which are 10s.

That being said, I did once get stuck on a cliff at W/B, and had to do a figure "11" down a chute without knowing what I might hit/go off. One of the more hair raising moments of my ski career. Wouldn't recommend doing it frequently...

I hope Powdr doesn't see this thread. He hates double diamonds. He'll probably faint if he finds out about the triples!

Yeah, it's a Spinal Tap reference, but I like figure 11 interpretation.

Any recomendations on where to look for some funs turns thursday thru saturday of this week? I am heading to W/B for the first time on a work trip and should be on snow all three days.
I am level 3 cert in the east and can't wait to ski somewhere with some big terrain. I will pick up the above mentioned guide as soon as I get in town.
Thanks for any advise.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's an outrage! A travesty!
