Seeking Junior Race Gear Advice

Thread Starter
I need some advise on buying racing skis.

My son has been racing in a J5 program for the last few years and he's been using Rossi Power 8s - I've just bought a new pair of skis in a longer lenght for each season. This year he is using 140 cm skis. He is about 70 lbs and 4'9'.

Next year he will be moving up to J4.

Based on last years Rossi racing equipement brochure that recommends ski size based on skier weight, not height.

For a 70 - 80 lb child, it recommends a 130 cm slalom ski, a 140 cm GS ski or alternatively a 140 cm dual event ski.

His technique is good and his on/off the course skiing performance/ability is on par with the other kids on this team.

My question is what is more important: skier weight or height when buying junior racing gear.

A couple of questions:

Would a 130 cm slalom ski be too short for a 5'0" kid?

Would a 140 cm slalom ski be a good dual event ski?

Thanks.

The big question is how he is doing in terms of working the ski. Is he getting the most out of what he has now?

Does he ski like a mad man with the devil behind him?

Does he use those edges fully and is the ski cutting loose on him in GS?

I would talk to the coach.
