Summit/Eagle Co. winter storm warning!

This should make for some interesting commutes for the holiday skiers. Numerous road closures including I-70 and Hwy 6 at Loveland Pass. Reports show that it's nuking up there! Too bad I'm feeling like crap and didn't head up this morning with OK Dan and Mr. Vertical. Too bad it's a holiday weekend, otherwise tomorrow would be SWEET! Maybe Tuesday will be ok if we go find some hidden stuff.

A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM MST SATURDAY.

SNOW WILL INTENSIFY TODAY AS COLDER AIR MOVES OVER THE AREA. ALSO
NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 50 MPH
POSSIBLE. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND WIND WILL PRODUCE REDUCED
VISIBILITY IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...ESPECIALLY OVER EXPOSED
RIDGES AND PASSES. SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH
TONIGHT WITH TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 10 TO 16 INCHES
EXPECTED BY EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS UP TO
20 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE
EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL
MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

As long as the roads are cleared by the time I get out there Sunday afternoon, I'll be ok with that. Oh yeah, and maybe if we get lots of snow in Summit all next week after I get there, too...

A good portion of I-70 is closed as is Loveland Pass and Berthoud Pass. The snow has let up at my house but the wind is fierce. If you want to check out road conditions, this is a helpful website: http://www.cotrip.org

Great idea--on my flight home Wednesday night, I sat next to a guy who rides it all the time. Here's a link--looks like it's sold out for Saturday but may have openings on Sunday. Click on Buy Tickets & Availability. http://www.skitrain.com/winter.html

Just spoke with Tom Burch on the phone a few minutes ago, and he reckons all roads out of Copper Mtn a currently closed.... Nobody is getting in, nobody is getting out....

The wind is bad here on the eastern side of the Indian Peaks. From my backyard, it looks like it is absolutely dumping fierce on the western of the divide (aka Winter Park).

I'm headed up in the morning. I'll be there to wave at the Ski Train as it pulls up. That is if Stanley doesn't decide to slide again.......

you think they'll open up 70 and the pass by tomorrow morning? I keep hearing that the wind is building up the drifts in the exact wrong spots (for us weekend warriors wanting to head up early tomorrow) and they'll be blasting in the AM. any thoughts? other than i should have bought an Eldora pass?

I hope they get it open. CDOT usually does a good job. I don't exactly want to call up my supervisor in the morning and tell him I can't teach today cause I can't make it to the mountain. I will be leaving extra special early to factor in weather... that's if I-70 is open by then. It could happen though.
