In looking at Whislter's website, it looks like you can access the lift without hiking from the Burnt Stew trail However, I heard that getting there still involved hiking. Would like to hear the story on the skiing in that area as well as access from people familiar with area.
You can definitely access the lift from Burnt Stew w/o hiking. The new lift dumps you just off of Piccolo which formerly was a ~15-20 min traverse and hike to get to. Flute Bowl is still a hike from the top of the lift. The gladed terrain below Flute and Piccolo IMO is pretty boring. The upside is that you don't have to hike out if you ski Flute. I had skied Piccolo before the lift was installed but never Flute. When I was there last month, Flute was totally socked in, so I didn't make the hike, however the terrain looked pretty awesome...next time!
