As some of you might know a dear friend and Master Racer died in a skiing accident at Park City last month. His name was Brett Pendleton.

We have set up an account so those interested can make a donation to help his wife and children for their immediate needs.

Here are the steps and we appreciate donations from anyone in the racing community.
Step 1 - Go to any Washington Mutual Branch. Announce that you are donating to a "Benevolent" Account. This step if VERY important so the teller knows what they are dealing with.

Step 2 - Either in the name of Brett Pendleton or Specifically in the the name of Sadie Pendleton-Dahlsrud (this is the actual account name). Either way the teller has a master list and will be able to find the account to accept the money.

Step 3 - Make your donation and get a receipt

You can make the donation at any Washington Mutual in Utah today and by Wednesday any Washington Mutual Nationwide.
Please get out and make your donation today to help Shawna and her girls!

Thanks You!!!

More on Brett Pendleton

Fellow Bears,

In my haste getting the information out on the "Brett Pendleton Benevolent Fund" at Wamu, which took way to long to set up, I didn't provide any background on our fallen brother.

Brett was a Master Racer at PCMR. He was one of the kindest, nicest guys I've ever met and one of the first to make me feel welcome when I joined the sometimes harsh program as a newbie in 2001.

His accident, which I can't go into, was past strange and has left his wife and two daughters in a jam. When I posted this my thought was reaching out to the IMD and RMM racers out there who may have known him or knew of him but I would certainly like to reach out to anyone who would like to help his family.

Here are some articles on Brett to give you a better feel for who he was and what an asset he was to our community - the Alpine Racing community.

Ski Racing

Utah Hang Gliding

The Salt Lake Tribune

As a side note the articles in the Park Record regarding Brett's Death have been pulled from the Internet. Don't know why.

I will be working on setting up a Paypal account that is attached directly to Brett's Wamu "Benevolent" fund to make it easier for folks to contribute to the Pendleton family. I will make the link available on MSR.com as soon as I can get this accomplished.

RIP Brett

Gary, thanks for providing this opportunity.
The original way was a bit complicated and I had intended to follow through but never did.
This easy access through modernskiracing is ideal and easy.

Hope this minor contribution on my part can help encourage and support a family in need.

Again I have to thank Joel for mentoring me a bit on making it easier to donate.

We've had a great early response and I have already heard from Shawna how much she appreciates the outpouring of support and help from the community. I personally can't tell you all how much I appreciate the response as the family really needed this and would have never asked on their own.

Thanks to everyone who has and will donate for Shawna, the girls, and the entire IMD Master community

Thanks for organizing this Gary (and thanks as well to Spindrift for the consulting work).

This is the kind of story that just breaks your heart. One moment, a husband and father, the next moment, gone. It must be incredibly difficult for Brett's family.

I just sent off my meager donation. I hope others will too.

Stay safe, everybody.

I'm afraid not.

I'm a part-time instructor here at JH and this coming week (starting Saturday) is one of the two weeks I'm required to be available. Good luck and go fast.

Snow King looks absolutely perfect right now. You should have great conditions.

Are you going to be at the Soldier Mountain Masters Training day on Feb 26? Kenny Corrock has asked my partner to be one of the coaches and he might go. If he does, he's trying to talk me into going as well. :

You bet, we finish the Jan's cup then leave immediately after the Sunday GS for Monday training at Soldier. There's a bit of concern about snow but they have alternate tracks (no big air) and Corrock does a fantastic job. Hope to see you there, we can have a beer bet

A lot of us are racing that one for Brett, we know he would have loved to been there with us

A minor logistical detail. If you are an old school Paypal type, you can just go to http://www.paypal.com and "Send Money" to "brettpmemorialfund@hotmail.com"

Thanks, Gary, for bringing this tragic story to everyone's attention,,, and thanks to you too, Spindrift, for your assistance in making it easier for those of us who'd like to do something to help the family Brett left behind. I just sent in my contribution.

As skiers, we're all bonded through an understanding of the shared passion for riding mountains and snow that Brett possessed, and by a clear knowledge of the risks our pursuit of passion subjects us to. On those sad moments when risk and fate collide in the path of one of our own, we come together to morn the loss of our friend, and help the family that friend has left behind. Thanks again Gary and Spindrift for providing the means for us to do so.

Again, thanks so far to everyone who has opened your hearts and wallets to help this family. Its going fairly well.

I implore anyone to read Brett's story and the posts of our brother and sister "Bears". If it touches you donate even a few bucks. With the PayPal option in less than 5 minutes you can securely make a huge difference for this family.

There is no better cause then helping the family of one of brethren who lost his life doing what he and all of us love so dearly. The depth of the loss for the family is incalculable but making the financial burden a bit less crushing for one of our friends and ardent supporter of our sport is a good thing to do. Help, every little bit adds up and that's the power of the community.

Epic has been fantastic, more than any other community online and that says a lot about the people of this community. People with hearts and compassion.

Your help is appreciated, believe me.

Just wanted to report that we had a great response for Brett's family from many communities. Epic's member contribution was fabulous and Shawna, the girls, the Park City Masters community and I would like to thank all of you.

Shawna is in the process of sending out thank you letters and she is amazed that people that didn't even know Brett would take interest and the time to help.

Thank you all!!!
