Friends, I am soon to pull the triggger on a pair of Ripsticks but need suggestions on sizing since there there are no demo opportunities. I am aggressive, "mature" (50 yo) skier of 40 years, solid level 8, though I am still in the transition period for old school. I am 165 lbs and 5'9. I ski packed powder on a good day, but mostly ice/hardpacked here in Maine. While I fancy myself still ripping up the moguls on blacks, seems that with the carving thing, I am more favoring fast romps and wider turns on blue and flatter black groomers. But I still want quick edge to edge for steeper pitches. I have been on Elan 666's for the past two seasons. They are wonderful for packed powder and particularly excell in transition conditions. But they are not carving machines, and I would like a more amenable carver to refine my technique. They are also rather nervous on real hardpacked and chatter/slap in the shovel at speed under those conditions. So would the 164's or 170's be the ones. Hopefully, there is someone out there who has skied both. I have been rereading some posts which describe the considerable personality differences between the RX 8's in the 16x vs the 17x lengths. As always, thanks to this great community.
