Crescent hills "IOWA" in Jan 1981. Fell in love the 1st time and went 5 times that year.

I was 18 but still at home and low and behold in the summer of 81 my dad gets transferred to SLC Utah

Skied about 35 days in winter 81-82 but joined the Navy summer of 1982. Did 20yrs in the Navy and skied sporadically due to transfers, but since retiring in 2002 this season marks my 1st ever time skiing 4 seasons in a row or 3 for that matter

As discussed with JG at LGC III, I wouldn't call this a destination resort, but if you are in the area you have to go the Pink Poodle for prime rib.

Great skiing with you at Copper JG, hope you have a safe trip home and looking forward to more turns with you next year.

My first time on skis was also at Garmisch in 1967. The Army-USO had a ski rental place there. I believe it was on the Zugspitze (I could be wrong). I was surprised that skiing wasn't as easy as it looked. They rented the wood skis, bindings, and even the skin tight stretch pants. I have a picture of me that day. I thought I was so cool skiing in the Alps. ha

First 'ski trip' I remember was White Pass, WA, 1969. I was 4.

Really cut my teeth at Ski Acres (now "Summit at Snoqualmie-Central"...whatevah)

REALLY learned To SKI at Stevens Pass and Alpental. Incidentally learned to 'skip school' to ski during this period (pun intended).

First "Big Resort Experience" was Christmas 1975, at Sun Valley with my family.

Nordic Mountain, Wisconsin is the first place I skied, but I grew up skiing and learned at Pine Mountain, Michigan.

I went to Vernon Valley NJ, and it changed my life. In 1968 at Vernon Valley I skied the beginner run for a half hour then to an intermediate for a while and on to an expert run. How tough can skiing be? Well I'm still skiing and still learning. I have lived in Salt Lake City and Aspen, and traveled around the country just to ski. I have introduced many people to skiing and it made a difference to them.

Heavenly in '81. Took an 1/2 day lesson to learn how to put gears on, learned how to get on and off the lift, side stepping up the slope, and snow pledge. In the afternoon, had the typical experience of friends taking me up to black run. Spent the rest of week at Heavenly and Kirkwood.

Three weeks later, went out and bought the 'short' 190 Atomic Micronic GSE, Lange XS (one of the first thermo fit liners), etc. Still have them; skied with them last year for kicks.

After that we drove up to Tahoe every weekend to ski from the bay area.

Wow, that was 25 years ago.

Greek Peak, 1988, wearing jeans with pyjamas underneath and a 1970's blue down jacket with really long pointy collars, that I used to fold underneath so it looked like a turtleneck. We were only in the area for a few months and when it started to snow all the skateboarders in school - ripped bleached jeans and bleached hair that was short underneath and long on top - started talking about going snowboarding (which must have been really new at the time?). We took a lesson, which started off near the base of the chairlift, just behind the lodge. I think we sidestepped up the hill and were taught to snowplow and after that, went up the chairlift. I think I fell twice but I don't remember it. What I do remember is shuffling from the top of the lift to where the slope started and feeling like I was racing down - until my 6 year old brother sped past. I don't remember anyone else on the hill that day, probably because it was absolutely freezing. My scarf was frozen solid in front of my mouth and my Dad had icicles in his beard. I couldn't wait to go back. I got one more day at Greek Peak that season before moving back home (where there's no snow). Next time I skied was three years later in St. Anton.
