Atomic or Head dilema?!

My dilema: SX10 b5-180cm or XRC 1200-177cm or SX12-176 cm.
I am 6'2" 220lbs level 8 aggressive carver on groomers.
It also has to be manuverable in tight spots as well or just when there isn't much new snow and soft courdoroy on the groomers.
I can not demo vright now and i have received a good offer for them.
Helllllp!!! Any and all input is welcome.

Help!

I have the XRC1100SW in 170 - it's a lot of fun - mainly on piste, but it doesn't mind the soft stuff either.
If it was my choice, I'd go with the 1200.

Atomic... its just always the way to go.

not that Im biased or anything...

I'd go with the Heads, too. Have skied both the Atomic SX 10, 11, etc, as well as the Head XRC series, including the new XRC 1200. The Heads are just as high performance as the Atomics, but more user friendly and versatile, IMO. Besides, you can get a great deal from Dawgcatching on a new pair of the XRC 1200's!

I skied the SX 11 in a 170, it was pretty versatile, handled bumps well, but wanted to stay in it's intended turn radius of roughly 17m, any larger turns made at high speeds felt uneasy because of that characteristic.

I have a friend who has the SX 10 B-5 and it seems to work well also and looks like it handles the speed and larger turns (along with bumps) better than the SX-11 but I haven't tried it so I can't really say for sure.

A friend who has the SX 10 B-5 or SXb5?
SX 10 B-5 seems to soft for my size?

The Head Rep. Steered my away from the XRC series. Said they were good for nothing.

Went with the Supershape Speed in a 177CM with tyrolia FF 17+ on his recommendation. It is basically a GS race, sidewall construction with a cheater sidecut of about 16M. has been a great ski. Sold my SX11 supercross.

The Head is a smoother and quieter. Seems more versatile also. Very fast!

Your Head rep seems to have a hidden agenda (stock issues?).

Your 06/07 SuperShape Speed is identical to the 05/06 iXRC1200SW.

Plus this years (06/07) iXRC1400SW Chip is an awesome ski.

The 05/05 iXRC1200 is a completely different ski then the 06/07 iXRC1200.

I asked this question specifically and he said Hands down SS shape over the XRC skis.

He has no stock problem. i bought them very early and they came from Head not his stock. Also have an 06/07 iRD SL & a Monster iM88

I have not skied the 1400 and I amsure it is fine, but he has no vested interest in one over the other, since I bought 3 pair of skis & bindings from him and my RD 96 boot.

I know this guy and how he skis and have to respect his opinion. I know northing about your skiing ability or technique. So for now, I am pretty damn happy with the SS speed!

I also have a bevy (and I mean a barge worth of Atomic's) I can ski on anytime!

I probably still have the email, maybe I'll post it!

and hear it is

monster come with the mojo 15 binding, the ss is a race ski xrc are all mountain cruisers, soft and wide. In my opinion good for nothing.

A couple of questions

Which binding on the im88/

what is it you like about the SS speed over the XRC 1200 or 1400?

I have skied both, and think the iXRC 1200 is a better freeski. We have both last year's (same as current SS Speed) and this year's iXRC 1200 mounted up for demo, and for both myself and the other skilled shop tester (ex-collegiate racer) the iXRC 1200 from this season is a smooth, stable powerhouse that is slightly less aggressive and more stable at speed than the SS Speed. The SS Speed is laterally stiffer and more competent in course ruts, but has a stiffer flex and is a little less fun going Mach 2 on hard snow. Overall, these skis are within a few % in terms of overall performance, and are much more similiar than they are different.

The regional Head rep that I deal with speaks very highly of the current iXRC 1200, and recommended that I sell those to very good freeskiers and the SS Speed to Masters guys. The statement he made about the iXRC being "good for nothing" is definitely not a universally-shared opinion. Did he even ski the 1200 or 1400?

I don't disagree with your statement above, however that is not what I stated in my previous post.

I said that your 06/07 SuperShape Speed is identical to the 05/06 iXRC1200SW.

Therefore the statement to stay away from the XRC series as they are "good for nothing" is rather suspect.

Interesting. maybe he knew i loved the isl Rd slalom and thought I owuld like the Ss speed better. Also coming off a 180 Sx11 and Race Stock SL11's.

i don't find the Ss speed at all stiff. In fact it is a bit of a shock after coming off them onto my i SL Rd. i find the Ss speed very versatile, as fast as I want to go stable & solid as a rock and very smooth and quiet. Even good in well spaced softer bump s on the steep.
i'll try the other skis when I get a chance!

Last years 05/06 i.Race Gs and iXRc 1200 were identical skis except for the topskin. The 06/07 SS Speed is the same ski with new graphics. but is a completley different ski from the 06/07 iXRC 1200 or 1400 chip!

OK, so what is it you ski on most of the time. :

You did say the iXRC1400 chip was an awsome ski. : :

Lol, Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so childish!

I own, a pair of SuperShapes, and a pair of iM88's.

With access to a wider quiver, I ski regularly on iSL RD's, iXRC1400SW Chip, iM82, SuperShape Speed (and Mojo90's ).

Also Nordica Hot Rods, Atomic SL's, SX's, Fischer RC4's.

Love em all, for different terrain, conditions, and moods!
