When to use a pocket stone and when to use a diamond stone

So I was just wondering when I should use my SWIX red pocket stone and when I should use my coarse and fine grit diamond stones? I know a ceramic stone polishes edges very well, so should I use it after I use the coarse, then fine diamond stones? Should I use it first? should I use it in the middle? should I not use it at all? This is all provided that I dont have any damage to my edges, and that they just need to come out super sharp. (it will be for a race)

:

thanks

The pocket stone is for emergency touch-up when you are away from your workbench.

Use the coarse diamond stone only if you have a major ding area, then follow it with the fine diamond stone and the fine ceramic stone in that order (I assume you do not have medium ceramic stone, but a fine one).

If you do not need to smooth over any dings, or only very minor ones, the fine diamond stone followed by the ceramic shoud do the trick.

What he said... That should work fine. I have gotten into using a panzer file only when I need to file the edges. I use a MoonFlex 200grit stone the rest of the time. Now that the snow is getting better I'll follow the 200 with a 600grit MoonFlex diamond stone.

We are assuming you have a edge guide.

If you use a panzer file be very careful, it will remove a lot of metal. I have found that a small 2" piece of the broken panzer works best.

Remember you don't need to use a lot of pressure when using these tools.

Let the tool do the work.

What if I only have those 3 tools plus a file? (the medium/coarse diamond stone, the fine diamond stone, and the swix pocket stone)

You will also need a edge guide and clamp. I hope your not using the tools free hand.
