This year looks iffy. Right now there looks like there is a decent base at Kirkwood, Squaw, Alpine, etc., but the yearly snow far is way off where it's been in the past. It's been a very dry winter here. If you go to the precipitation totals on weather.com for Sacramento or Truckee you'll see for yourself. We're going skiing at spring break (second week of March) and staying on the northside of the lake and then probably skiing Northstar, Squaw and Alpine and maybe Mt. Rose. Maybe it'll start raining in February and March. El Nino just needs to cooperate. So were all hoping that it starts really raining here in the valley for February and March and maybe then we'll be skiing natural snow through March.

In a typical winter the maximum snow base occurs in March and into April. March is winter, and while there are typically breaks in the weather, don't expect spring skiing conditions.
