TR Mad River Glen 1/26/07

I skied at Mad River today. The conditions were very good considering they had nothing about 2 weeks ago. I stayed on the single all day. The trails had p.p. over a harder layer. Top 1/3 of Paradise had some slick spots but overall nice snow to work with. Bumps are shaping up nicely on the mountain. Thought the trail with best snow and bumps was Catamount. The Chute had good cover too, good bumps and snow on skiers left. Lift Line below mid station was skiing sweet , the cliffs / drop offs had nice snow for the landings. Lynx was kind of thin in places, Fall line and Canyon also had good snow and bumps. The woods were NOT recommended on the patrol marking board at the top of the single. I skied a little bit of lower Falldise and although there was maybe 10" of powder, there really is not much of a base and lots of stumps were definately showing ready to trip people up. But all in all I think MRG is skiing very good and if you like the natural snow, bumps, etc. head on up. It was -20F up there today but temps are supposed to rise over night. Lift tickets today were $29.00 but I'm not certain if that will be the case on Sat. Get out and ski! Sorry no info on the stuff over at double or any groomers but the one part from bottom of Catamount over to mid station was groomed and it was real nice.

Phil spend Saturday at MRG skiing the steeps and bumps. It will make skiing Outerlimits on Sunday look real easy. Have fun this week end.

Snowbowler you are a true Spartan or maybe hardcore New England skier is a better description. Thanks for the TR - refreshing from the whiner stay inside folks complaining all the time!

We are heading out tomorrow. We skied there last sunday and it was great. If you are out say hi, I will be on blue pocket rockets. There is a patroller on em there too now but usually don't see many others out there. I agree Catamount was nice, we did not even try to ski it but hit a woods shot that spit us out there and were pleased with the result. Tomorrow I have my eyes on some nice woods lines as well. Last week I learned what was good, and what was not so good....

Alphonse; I'm not able to ski there on weekends, I ski instruct at Middlebury College Snowbowl on weekends. I was looking at some peoples skis on Friday looking for pocket rockets thinking you might be there. My guess on good woods skiing might be east of the single and with not too steep of a line, but you probably know better than I on that. I might try for next Friday and hopefully with my son because I felt awfully guilty doing the Lift Line cliffs without him there. Have a great time up there! David

Sorry BW I'm digitally challenged, I can't shoot a good picture to save myself and I hate to stop and focus on anything, plus with only dial up available for my internet connection it would take forever. Hows Snowbird? Do you know a instructor there named Tim Foley, make some turns with him if you get the chance. I would think you guys would be on the same terrain and pounding it. Tell him Dave from the Bowl says hi.

It was sweet today. The woods were really sick, tons of that light pow. But we got bolder today and tried to find some lines that had not been skied this year yet. It led to some trying bushwacking. What was sweet though was that freshener few inches over night and we took chute and liftline first two runs, it was delicious. Enough to make a week of work seem like childs playThere was a decent amount of people there today and they hit chute hard. We ended the day on it and the bumps are HUGE now. You were right about the trees though, the best stuff we found was lines in falldise. But new Frontier was nice also of off Lower Antelope. We dropped off lots of stuff today and my Other Big toenail was destroyed today but its all good. I still remember seeing you guys from last year, your son on his twin tips. Bucket heal that knee, its my Bday next weekend I expect to see you out there.
