Arcteryx sizing?

Getting ready to order a Arcteryx Theta Ar online and since I've never been able to try one on I am confused as to which size to get. I'm 6-0, 180# with a 43-44" chest. One person at BackCountry sain a Large should work and another said go w/ an XL. I wear a Large in all North Face parkas and an XL in Mountain Hardwear. Anyone have experience with this particular parka that can point me in the right direction? I will be layering underneath.

I am a bit shorter than you at just over 5'10", but I weigh about the same with the same chest measurement. I have the Beta AR in an XL and it is a bit too roomy. I ended up buying this on vacation in Canada a few years ago when the weather turned a bit chilly and damp and I was unprepared. The XL was the only size that the small outdoors store had in stock at the time. Arcteryx is great stuff and I have since bought a few other items include a fleece jacket which I did purchase in a large and it fits me much better. Despite the fact that the Beta is a bit roomy I still wear it to this day.

Arcteryx stuff has an "athletic fit" which means it's made for tall skinny guys. I'm 5'11", 180lbs, 42" chest. I tried on a medium Sidewinder and it fit great everywhere but across the chest. I ended up with a large which was better across the chest, but a little baggy everywhere else. Interestingly, I've got a 34" waist and medium Minuteman bibs fit perfectly.

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.

Natural Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.

Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.

Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.

Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.

From my experience, the Arc'teryx shells fit a bit large and accommodate layers well. You are a solid Large for the jackets, and an XL will hang on you like a sail.

I'm 6ft and weigh 210 and wear an XL jacket that's a touch big on me. A Large should
be right for you.
