Bob Gibson "Ski Songs"

I came across this GEM doing some research for the 2nd annual Alf Engen Ski School Slide show. I've never heard of Bob before, and I must say this was right on the money for what I was looking for musicwise (I'm changing things up from my last years production....) Rhino re-released it in 2005. I found it via Rhapsody. Here's a link that has a few samples...

It's and oldy (1959) and a goody, worth a listen for sure...

Here's the Wikipedia entry on Bob Gibson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Gibson_(musician)

Good golly, that's awful! It's also very fun and should be great for the slide show. Thanks for the link and the smiles.

Those are incredible songs!!!! I'm gonna have to download some of them!!!

Another album, if you can find it is by "The Gentleman Skiers". It's a good listen!

The Wegeman Brothers are all members of the CO Skiing Hall of Fame (for their skiing, not their singing) and also participated in the "Up With People" program.

Paul Wegeman is a personal friend, and one of the dearest people I know! Unfortunately, his father (also in the CO Skiing Hall of Fame) and his brothers have all passed away.

Lonnie- That is so awful that its awesome. I kept waiting to hear about Charlie getting stuck on the chairlift instead of on the MTA.

There's a group out there called the IcyNuts (I don't know how they spell it, you'll have to look them up). They are a bunch of ski instructors from the east that take existing songs and re-write them with ski lyrics. They play at the Snow Pro Jam at Killington in December. TheRusty knows all about them and has a few of their CDs.

What a coinsidence(sp). My daughter is getting married this weekend. The DJ will be playing "Super Skier" at the reception/dance and dedicating it to me.

I saw Bob Gibson perform at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen in the fifties. Does this mean that I may be old?

To add to the conisidence (didn't get it right that time either!) My son came home for his sisters wedding and we found out that his wifes parents own the vinyl record of the song.

Weems, You are beyond old if you saw him then. My older sister had the album. I still remember some of the lyrics:

They called him Super Skier as he sat around the sundeck
And he swore that he'd never spill.
When they finally took him down they had to use 3 tobaggans
To carry all the pieces down the hill.

Sounds like some of our Epic buddies this year. BTW I remember you from Steamboat in the 70's, but you are still older than I am! LewBob

I've been listening to Bob Gibson's Ski Songs ever since I can remember. We bought the album when it came out in the 60's I now have it on my iPod -- YES you can download it from iTunes.

I have all the lyrics somewhere. My home resort sometimes plays it over their sound system and "Super Skier" is sung by one of the musicians who plays in the bar each year. The album is also nailed on the wall of the Mt, LaCrosse Wisconsin, resort bar.

If 1960's folk music isn't your cup of tea you might try "Ski Patrol Revisited" by
Eric T. & Skis. "Mellow Daddy Skier" is my favorite song on that album. "UBR" is OK too (Unwanted Binding Release).

Nice! A bunch of these songs were in Warren Miller's "Sno-What?"

I love that movie.
