And yup, I know most of the "bigger and fatter" boys are on an ego trip ... fine, if wasting your energy using those big skis is worth it to impress the girls, OK; whatever edge you can get.
I realize you're a special case, Jer, but you really can't recommend what you can handle to the average Joe. It's pretty much like Bode handing a level 8 a WC ski and saying "these are nice".
I kinda hate to agree with Jer (just on principle)but his suggestions about a Gotama or Mantra - as a pretty conservative baseline - are right on target for this thread. I might start a few cm shorter - but that's a minor detail. Anything less than 95 underfoot can't credibly be discussed as a "powder" ski today. And for someone in the 200 pound plus range I think starting at 95 or even 100-105 underfoot for a ski that will mainly be a powder and soft snow specialist is very, very reasonable.
Unless I drag out the B5s for a pure groomer day, I'm not sure I'll spend another day on anything less than 105 underfoot this season. And if I don't drag the B5s out for some skiing later in the season - well, I guess that'll be an omen about where my quiver is gonna be in the future...
