I ditched my plans to ski Taos Friday and shuffled the work schedule in anticipation of a big powder Saturday...

Rats! Missedus to the South. 2" at WC this morning and 1.5" at Taos. Meanwhile they get more than a foot in Amarillo. What a colossal waste of good snow!

Ski Apache near Ruidoso is the southernmost area of decent size. They got 8 inches from this storm. Season snowfall there is 76 inches.

I'll take my 45 drive min. drive to Alta's upper mountain 70" over your 300 mile drive to the flatlands of WC anyday. Heck, I could get to the only real steep & deep (Silverton) in your state faster than you can.

Sad thing, even with your 45 min. Drive, your still in UTAH! Happy thing for me my 2nd house 1840 Gold Drive is 20 miles to Copper & 3 miles from MT Elbert, 14,300' I would take you up, but most of you Flat-Landers can't even make it to the trail head!

Just a word of caution Mr Vert: NEVER give your address out on the net. There are all kinds of idiots out there.

Seriously Mr. Vertical,

I'm surprised you hate Utah so much.

You'd fit right in with some of my wack-job neighbors!

Good at Aspen on Sunday

I finally got to ski Ajax with good conditions. Shin to knee deep blower off the Bell face and the runs leading from International on Sunday (official 6" at 5 am, but much more on top by 9 am). There was a creaky old two seater (forgot the name) where I was getting 20 linked untracked turns in a row in the am.

I am guessing Aspen got brushed by that same low Sat night/Sunday morning

Saturday was spent skiing Highlands..this a steep as hell mountain..Snowbird like steeps off of Deep Teremity at Highlands, but longer and more sustained than SB IMO ... no new snow on Sat but awesome PP, did not hike the Bowl but will next month when I return. Good steep terrain at both mountains (Highlands and Ajax).

And as a side note, I wish certain people would refrain form stereotyping CO as lacking in the steep and deep outside of Silverton. What is the point especially when it is completely unfounded? Both states have great skiing and I have had some great pow days in both places.
