Kudos to the Mods!

Thread Starter
So...we have one group whining about commercial posts being deleted, and yet another sobbing about too many commercial posts. Some want less moderation, other want more. (Delete this thread, no don't delete this thread!!!!!....and so on and so forth.

Then we get what was probably the finest whine of them all..."I'm bored!" :

So now, you're expected to jump up and dwon and make funny faces in order to keep certain forum members from getting bored. Someone once told me that if you're bored, you're boring.

At this point, I'd be out the door, but you guys have remained faithful to the cause. In case some of you are new to this site, the Mod Squad was formed last Spring when the content on this site had sunk to the lowest depths imaginable. The PM system was being used for threats of violence and other offensive communications.

How many of you would choose to moderate such a situation on a volunteer job?

So in the interest in "giving heartfelt thanks," let me point out a few positive quotes about the mods.

Quote:
Indeed, the moderators here at Epic do an
EXCELLENT job, regardless of what my SSD says....
I remind him that Epic put us in touch, over 6 times zones, and lead to my employment, here in the Carpathians, where we have snow!

Thanks Mods,
-Hem

I'm not sure that a lot has really changed, although since I've seen this site grow a lot (I am member #555, and I thought it was huge then!), I've certainly seen a lot more people show up whose main intent seems to be just to agitate.

I think that the moderators are doing a fine, if very difficult, job of managing the growing pains of a site that has truly become the tour de force of skiing sites world-wide. It will be a never-ending battle, and I'm certain that they'll never please everyone!

Happy New Year to you, and welcome back!

Best regards,
Bob

I wasn't whining, just merely stating a fact. And I am a pretty boring guy.

bored? that is a sign of a weak mind. if you are bored

please read the thread on "tri-skiing" or teaching an amputee how to turn, balance, herringbone, walk uphill, get off the lift, etc.

Hey I object to this thread, it's just another example of how epic is going downhill!

Oh sorry wrong message board (as opposed to message bored.)

I too applaud (what is the sound of one moderator clapping?)

Or, "If a moderator falls on the 'net and noone sees it, does it make a sound?"

If any of those pesky mods dare show their faces to me at Aspen

I'm buying them a drink.

If that's ok with you.
People that share their time without monetary compensation for the love of their sport
Are pretty damn cool in my book

Thanks everyone for your support. Its been a tough week. We've made changes to swap guidelines and discussed how we can work better as a team to ensure decisions are not arbitrary. This is usually a fun place to be when we are allowed to just blend in. We will never make everyone happy, but its nice to know when things get difficult, that we have the support, or at least patient acceptance of our miss-steps from our core members, friends and ski companions.

Garry, I'll take that drink now.

Well-said, Ms. Marie.

Thanks for the quote-bite....by which I firmly stand.

Good thread, LM! My helmet's off to the mods for all the time and effort they put in (strictly volunary, no less!) so the rest of us can enjoy these boards. There's a lot they do behind the scenes that most of us don't even know about. I, for one, think they do an excellent job. So for all you do, mods, thanks!

Oh darn, I thought this was a discussion about the conflict of the Mods (Vespa's) vs Rockers (motorbikes).

Having moderated message boards before and all that follows - Thanks for moderating this active board. And well, GO MOD's , Vespa's & Lambretta's Rock!

Hemthinks that perhaps those who are the most vociferous regarding the foibles of the moderation staff forget that the moderators, no less than any of us, are, indeed, human, and, as such, suffer from the same pathos shared by us all.

Moderation, even in moderation, is not always an objective endeavour.
Better we take the time to acknowledge the good in each other.
We're brought together by a common interest...why take the fractional tack?

Cheers, Hem
