I was at south shore (Heavenly) last week and week before. Nevada side lifts were on wind hold almost all day every day, and only a handful of lifts on California side were operational. Those that were had up to 45-minute waits, even on a Tuesday and Wednesday! Most days were too windy to be even worth it, and what little new snow there was was blown.
When it's windy at the Tahoe majors, I usually hit Mt Rose
, between Incline and Reno on the Mt Rose Highway (431). They don't get the same wind that the others do and have a favorable elevation. But even though it was relatively calm two weeks ago, the lack of any real snow was an issue. When the Chutes are closed, as they were, I don't even bother. I understand it's gotten better (my cousin works there), but Chutes are still closed.
Patterns at Tahoe are funny, as mentioned. We were spoiled by the last two winters, which were abnormal for January. But February always shapes up. I'll be there when you are and think our combined snow dances will do the trick.
