This link contains a lot of pictures of 2008-models:

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link.

I understand the manufacturers are targeting the freeride pipe & park crowd, but man o' man are some of those sticks FUGLY.
IMHO, the manufacturers are shooting themselfs in the foot for changing the graphics EVERY year. The general public and even ski shops just cannot keep up.

They are probably shooting each other in the foot... I guess they would all have to agree on not changing the graphics every year, although I think Rossignol Bandits only change every other year (?)

Has anyone seen the new Völkl Katana in person? From the picture it (almost) looks like they have swallow-tails?

Those are all pipe/park/big Mt skis, so shouldn't they be targeted to the people that skis them? After all, the name of the website is "freeride."

There will be plenty of classy looking skis next year. They're just not in this category.

Phil: It's a chicken and egg thing. As soon as somebody doesn't change a graphic and everybody else does, they've just rendered themselves as "old."

But of course.

If I were trying to sell something I'd cater that product toward the intended audience. After all, a bucks a buck.

But that still doesn't take away from the fact that they're FUGLY just the same.

Just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

some were FUGLY, but some were cool.

the new Titan (all white is pretty sweet looking). Some of the Elans were nice and simple (faux woodgrane with just a single pinstripe down the middle) and there were a couple of the Rossi's that looked sweet and simple.

as for changing the graphics every year, i concur. but it seems to be a modus operandi taken from snowboard clothing companies. Burton/Volcom, etc. change their designs every single year. i tried to find some cool Burton plaid pants from 2 seasons ago and they are long gone.

while it's annoying to have them change so often, it also lends a "collectibility" mentality to things. for example, i rock a pair of lime/puke green Volcom boarder pants as my every day ski pant. nobody has said anything about them for the past 2 seasons. all of a sudden this season i have folks coming up to me in the lift lines or as i make my way to the slopes saying "those are sick, where did you get them?" when I tell them that they're now 3 seasons old they get that bummed look in their eyes since there's no way they can get a pair. i've put my Hanna Teter plaid pants on ice and plan to start wearing them in about 2 seasons when they'll be "retro."

The Katana is not a true swallow tail, they make a snowboard with the same treatment (The Selecta) called a 'powder chanel'. imagine cutting a plastic funnel in half and fusing it to the two forks of the swallow tail, thats what they've done.

FWIW: I really like the topsheets on the 2008 Katana, Mantra and Gotama.

Troutman: Is it easy to cut off the powder channel? do you know if anyone has tried it yet?

(yeah, I'll try it before cutting it off....)

Ya, on the whole I've gotta say thats an ugly lot. I kinda like the Head 105's breaking wave thing, and the XWave S-Lab looks alright, but I don't see much else that's great.
I don't like the new Monster series as much (you can see them in the 2nd shot of the Head skis). They kept those designs more or less constant for 2 years, which is pretty good considering. The puke green on the 82 wasn't the greatest colour, but it grows on you, and I liked the actual design.

Ugly or weird but expected to be ugly or weird: All Atomics; all K2's; all Rossi Twin-tips.

Uglier than needed or expected: Dynastar 8000, 4800, and Mythics; Head Monsters; Scott Mission; Salomon X-Waves.

Better than expected: Blizzard Titan; Fischer Addict; Scott p4; Rossi's with wings, whatever they are (formerly Bandits?).

Excellent: Head Supermojo 105; Volkl Gotamas, Volkl Katanas; Nordica Supercharger Blower.

I know I'm late to the party, but I couldn't agree more.

Those graphics aren't aimed at anyone past age 17.

The question is: "how gnarly can we get?". All the better to snub society, and "define ourselves".

It's counter culture and radical. But, it wears out overnight. By next year, it becomes - yawwwn - boring, even to 17 year-olds.

rossi's bandit line looks sick in person way better than the green flames

I think they should pick a design and make slight alterations each year. That way, you can show that you're an expert by noticing the tiny differences. "Hey look, that's got the bolder line around the edge, it must be the 2007-8!" It'd be the same kind of marketing around how Audi S4s don't look that much different than A4s to the undiscerning eye.

What I'd really like to see is totally black skis. The K2 Silencer is pretty close, but it still has stuff on it. I'd also like K2 to bring back their simple red white and blue. (And for Rossi to use the rooster again.)

Rossi to back to their orange/black days
What's that Marker binding doing in there? Is that the new one for climbing?

Also, most of those ski designs are unacceptable for a man of my stature.: I would like black, like a cadilac.

The Ignition looks rediculous.
