I'm Out For Blood! - Page 3

Was near a blood mobile Sunday morning and dropped a pound in about 15 minutes.  I am at 3 and some more gallons.  The count does not matter, just give.  It is just sad how many areas really do not have the locations to donate, but give where you can.

Its even sadder how many hospitals aren't looking into alternatives to blood transfusions. The military has recently invested a large deal of money into developing more surgical techniques that don't require blood transfusions. Around my area some of the most cutting edge bloodless centers in the world are making major leaps and bounds to cut out the need for blood in many surgeries. Particularly Pennsylvania University in Philadelphia. This is a 25 page research paper I did on the subject last fall:

22 Units as of yesterday.  Only 2 more to go on this personal trip of mine.  Of course I won't stop there.

I'm proud to add that I gave blood today.  The last time I did was in college some 15 years ago when I actually passed out. I've been nervous ever since.  We had a mobile station at work today and figured at least if it happened here I'd have people around and not have to drive for a bit.  Happily, I felt a little off for an hour or 2 afterwards but not bad so I plan to become a regular donor.

This journey started on 1/12/07.  Today I reached the journey's end.  I donated my 24th unit since my surgery in 2005.  That "makes up" for the units I needed, the units that literally saved my life.  I felt good.  I hope I've touched someone's life the way those 24 strangers touched mine.
