For those of you who think Lake Effect would be welcomed in Vermont
(These radar images are in real time, so they will appear somewhat current at the time you are veiwing them, not necessarily the time they were posted.)

I can say it! From my office nary a flake, but I can see the snow clouds over the lake and over Ellicottville. Hopefully more than a foot. Plus they are running 100 guns or so.

Look like temps after the weekend are going to dive for a while.

Thank You

We were predicted for 2 inches and got nearly 4
The weather pattern that is coming through right now is a bit above me but is going to hit all my favorite ski hills

I had enough snow to make a snow angel, maybe the snow angel will bless the remainder of the winter.

The trouble with snow angels is, you need a special someone to help you up so you don't leave a hand print.
My special someone wasn't available, so my snow angel isn't perfect.

Actually I prefer the sound of the avalanche cannon, but snowplows will do.

Dear Skiers who benefit from LES:

Have a funny story about "Lake Effect Snow (LES)". Spending a night in a Buffalo motel a few years back, the weather report kept showing captions of "Winter warning: LES for xxxx, yyyy, zzzz counties". I thought that there was so much snow in Buffalo that "Less" snow was news (sort of like man bites dog) and that the TV channel had just misspelled "Less". Well, keep on snowing "les" or otherwise, but just keep on, regardless.

Sounds like they're not doing so well according to tonight's news reports. Crystal announced a bunch of layoffs and reduced operating hours to try to conserve resources after the big losses experienced over the holidays.

If you're planning to visit Crystal any time in the near future, you would do well to call ahead and be certain what they'll have open.

I went to crystal last night. They closed at 8 instead of 9. The employees I was talking to were complaining about short hours.
If the snow keeps cooperating, they may salvage a bad winter, but I'm wondering what the upcoming MLK weekend will do for them.

Snow Ridge ski area on the Tug Hill Plateau now reports 20 inches of fresh LES

Charlie, that's so funny!

See what happens when we use acronyms and assume everyone knows what they mean? Worth consideration in everything we do...

Dear ThatsaGirl:

Thanks. I thought so too. It wasn't until I flipped to another channel and saw that they also misspelled "less" that I said to myself: "Hmm. This 'les' just might happen to not be 'less'. Maybe it may even mean 'more' . Go figure these crazy northern round eyes".

Hope you enjoy the trees and I don't want to see any bark in your teeth. Well no, I remember from some other post that you weren't skiing this weekend. Seems like we can get some local skiing (less than 1.5 hours drive) down here in Maryland. Next week, we will get some great snow making weather, not that I'm complaining about this weeks snowmaking. Your guys/gals up north should really be building up a base.

Oh, yes, sometimes les(s) is more!

You're correct, no skiing for me this weekend (first weekend we've missed all season), so it means skiing will finally be decent again! :

Hope you get out on the slopes this weekend...
