Today was my first day on the Sanouks. Vail saw 8"+ overnight. Not terribly deep by any means and usually I'd use my Mantras without any complaints on a day like today but had to give the Sanouks a trial run.
Sanouks are unbelievably fun in powder. I've never had a ski that floated so well. I was maching down the steeper runs like I was carving on a groomer and never did I feel them dive down. I felt like I was on waterskis and was hydroplaning above the surface.
Initially I was hesitant to take them in tight trees since they have virtually no sidecut but again they surprised me and performed remarkably well. I found that using some old-style technique with up & down body motion and driving the ski actively with the lower leg goes a long way with Sanouk.
Once the hill started getting chopped up they weren't nearly as much fun and skiing on groomers required me to check my speed. So I shot down to my locker at the base & grabbed Mantras for the afternoon clean up.
All in all it was a super day. I can't wait for my next Sanouk day !
It may be a one trick pony, but what a trick it is.
