suddenly skiing gondolas alone during blizzards in japan is becoming more and more seemingly boring...

well that died quickly. is the alu-self-built-sick-as-your-mom binding shot the only photo?

How do those ride HS? I'd love to read you go off about how sick your bindings are. I wonder if I could handle them. I'm guessing those stocklis go through ice chunks like a butter knife, highly due to the binding. Of course, the ski may have zero bend under foot.

(come on guys, that binding set-up puts your diy set-up to shame. It's honestly the most hard-core diy I've ever seen. I thought my kitchen cutting boards with screws from the binding through the plate through the ski was sick.)

do they rip hs? should I make a pair for my system bindings? Afterall, my hard snow ski is the HOT ROD. and how hot rod are aluminum blocks?

I would paint flames on them, or decals from a harley dealer like I flaunt on my new jet fuels. Got flame hs? come on boy, flame... flame... flame away for us. they sell flames at the harley shop if you're too tired to diy.

Not if he did each box as a two channel overlap, four bolts per box, with the midline bolts fixed and the outer bolts free to slide. Hmmm, might have to try that. Sure would make mounting the things to the ski easier.

Anodize them blue or that orangeish Mavic color for maximum chick appeal. Do both for the UVa look.

(and has anyone noticed the forward pressure spring implications of lifters like that?)

When I was a kid, I "invented" a rocket powered ski. Those just might work. All you'd have to do is bore out the center of the block to accept a small rocket motor. Talk about flames...

ya know---hs proposed a plan. hs laid the plan out for all to comment on. hs followed thru on the plan--flawed as some might think it was. reading TR's here and on tgr and personal observations from afar seem to indicate hs followed thru nicely. how can you fault that? the only ones qualified to find fault with the execution of the plan are those who attended AND identified themselves. i don't fall in that group---whose fault is that other than my own??

i kinda like the look of the lifters---irip and others have already said he didn't clinic on them--heck even i said he appeared to have some head mosnter something in the gondola line---seems he is always up for an oddball visual image.

i applaud the guys hutzpah in planning and executing this event and hope that he does so again.

maybe I misunderstood this post, but it doesn't appear anyone is "faulting" hs for anything, quite the contrary actually.

I too like the lifters, wouldn't ski them, but like them. And I know he didn't clinic on them, but I still am waiting to read his reviews of said bindings. Surely he's skied them. (come on hs, how well do they crank?)

as far as the clinic goes, I am pretty amazed that only a few people showed up and stood their own ground considering how many people here have given his MA so much flack. I can't be bothered with flying my bum out there, as I'm sure others can't. Nonetheless, he put up and it seems others are shutting up.

still waiting, HS... binding review severely wanted...

Sorry samurai---nature of the internet, I thought the only ragging point left was a rather lame "bash on the home made lifters"---assuming he was on them for freeski clinic numero uno!

I too would be interested in how they work!:

no sorry needed at all. I WAS poking fun, but just to get him to go off. I do want to know, however, how much he likes/dislikes that much lift. I personally love lift, but have never attempted anything remotely that high. there is a reason FIS puts limitations on it. I honestly think it would kick my butt, and maybe they did kick his butt in the end and hence, he didn't ride them for the clinic.

is that why there is no review, hs? did your own diy defeat you? like my dad's super-powered garbage disposal eating silverware and ultimately chewing itself to bits? (true story btw)

Actually, I was one who ragged on HS before but I've kind of come around. I noted in another thread that if I weren't 3,000 miles away, I'd have liked to go to this. Frankly, I think it turned out to be a pretty good time from what I've read. I think it would have been fun to hang and rip with some good skiers in some interesting terrain. For all the bluster, I think I've come to 'get' HS's humor and think it's funny. Basically, he's just putting everybody's seriousness to classic form to a test and kind of putting it in your/our faces. Good for him!

Peace, HS.

touche.
But surely he's taught quite a few lessons via the 'clinic'- here, on the forum, as well those few who showed up. I love the gondola lesson; how to reserve a whole gondola with only a few people. I personally never grew up on gondolas and have very little experience. and here in japan, the locals just let me go alone in fear I may try to talk to them.

I'm still waiting for my alu-lifter lesson though...

Weren't there 10 pages of people talking crap on HS' clinic, some of whom are in Vermont? Sounds like it was a good time and HS rips frozen crap hard.

Newsflash:

Highway Star is really Gary Cooper, and you dimwits have all been duped.
Look for yourselves in the remake of his classic film after it hits local theaters in the spring:

Ooohh, you're so groovy, HS. Your binders are so awesome! Hey, do you like Bobby Sherman? Me too...I can't believe it! Can we come inside your gondola?

Steep and Cheap should put up some love beads, they'd make a killing off of this love-in. :
