What Effect Does the Crappy Season Have on Gear Prices

I'd be interested to hear what some of the people in the industry think. Purely selfish, I'll admit....I gave my beloved Atomic BetaRide 11.20's to my brother in law and now have only racing skis so I may be in the market for a mid-fat (if it ever snows).

If the supply/demand theory holds, then gear will be discounted. With that said, you had better buy this season. Stores may not re-order product for next year, and if it snows early, they will get cleaned out. This is exactly what happened 2 winters ago with our crappy PNW winter: shops had excess gear and couldn't order more (they still had outstanding bills to pay) and we had early November snow. Gear was difficult to find after December.

Thanks Dawg. I usually buy in April...I couldn't care less what the tops look like, it's what's inside that counts...last year's skis are fine for me. When I was in high school, we used to paint our skis flat black to deter thieves.

It means I got boots at 50% off today for my son... but no place to ski. We're closed, and it's raining and 9C outside.

Should be a great spring for buyers. They're probably redirecting equipment to areas with good snow/good selling markets right now.

Just bought my wife a pair of Salomon Irony 6.0 ski boots locally for 40% off the $375 retail. I prolly could've saved a little bit more by buying off the net but I wanted to support my local shop who has been getting CRUSHED this winter.

I heard from two stores the East coast branches are shipping their stuff out west and they should be restocking sold out items. I bet for smaller eastern shops great bargains will be found soon

From the reseller side of things, I've dumped used race gear on ebay in past seasons for more than I'm getting on new stuff now...

Two years ago we had zero for snow in the PNW. Everything was closed down at this time of year. Stuff went on sale around 2/1 and it was priced very low and some places dropped it again. I bough a set of Elan M666's with Solomon bindings and payed about $425 for the whole outfit with tax, in February. Look for big deals soon.
