Offensive symbols and logos on skis and accessories - Page 2

...and none of those obscenely suggestive new "shaped" skis with their deep sidecuts and hourglass figures, er, shapes, and their ability to carve sensuous curves in the snow....

And how can you be straight-laced with buckle boots?

Thanks Altaskier for making a funny thread funnier!

Actually, if Christian_Skier really is a troll, his next post will clearly have to be a heartfelt protestation of his sincerity about this topic.

Unfortunately, if he isn't a troll, his next post will also be a heartfelt protestation of his sencerity, and therein lies the problem. This guy has posted exactly once, so we know absolutely nothing about him.

All we know about him is that he effectively walked into a room full of people talking, and decided to immediately bring up a topic that he had to realize: (a) would certainly be controversial, (b) has rarely (if ever) been previously discussed here, and (c) is likely to be as off-topic in this forum as politics is.

At minimum, his actions show either that he is indeed a troll, or else has a value system in which he places the importance of his own beliefs and concerns high above any concerns for appropriateness of social interactions, his probable lack of credibility with others, etc.

If Ott, Fox, SCSA or anyone that we know had brought up this issue, I guarantee that they would have been received a much less cynical, more thoughtful set of responses.

If I had gone over to a Christian discussion forum, and in my very first post, decided to firmly state an opinion on (for example) the inappropriateness of prayer in public schools, what sort of reaction do you think I would receive.

IMHO, this guy (like most zealots and trolls) has the social graces of the proverbial bull in the china shop, and got exactly the reception he deserves, namely, civil, but strong doubts as to his sincerity. At least we didn't "JONG" him.

Tom / PM

PS - FWIW, to some degree, I actually agree with this guy that many of the topsheet graphics (as well as many album covers, MTV videos, advertisements, movies, cartoons, etc.) are in poor taste and try to give my kid the tools to evaluate and deal with these sorts of things later in life. The difference is that I don't feel any compulsion to convince others of my beliefs.

If the above is so ant-christian, why do the naked women I know keep sayin : "Oh God, oh God, ohhh Gooood"?

OTT!!! YOU da MAN!!! 'specially if "ALL the naked women" you know say that! My image of you is now officially ugraded from merely great skier who is charming, articulate and intelligent to . . . STUDLY! um . . . how many is "all"?

. . . but seriously, folks, this has been a fun troll, wouldn't you say? Thanks, Troller!

By the way, we DID at least once before get into this kind of discussion [not revealing any names of Bears here] about the snowboard in the UK called a "Stiffy" upon which appeared the image of a kid with pants protruding in a place appropriate to the brand of the board. A serious suggestion was made that the image of a "stiffy" was harmful to children, or at least to the fifty percent or so of them who do not frequently wake up with one.

The ski manufacturers have the better of us here - they come up with such graphics that we leave them alone. But if Troll can spray paint over an offending graphic, why can't we ALL customize our slats? What's better for the soul than having skis show a religious image like a photo of Al Sharpton?

Yup, Oboe, I agree completely. If it indeed was a troll, it was certainly good fun for a summer day. In particular, I thought the writing was really quite well done. It had just about a perfect blend of furrowed brow earnestness with just a hint of underlying haughty contempt for the unwashed masses who he knew would be reading it. Fortunately, it left a very pleasant aftertaste with no hint of acrid bitterness. Furiously mixing metaphors, I'd rate it: "Would like to see more from the same author".

I almost fell out of my chair laughing at this thread. Be very careful Bears. These youngns' usually travel in pairs and go by the names "ELDER blank" and "ELDER blickit blank". The next thing you know you are on your way to SLC too.......wait a minute this might turn out to be a good thing!!!
Funny, Artimus, but the Elders have more class than that. Agree with them or not, the LDS are pretty decent folk, except when they interfere with my drinkin' preferences in SLC and environs.
Ott--I now bow down before YOU! Thanks for that one!

A mighty swordsman is Ott; his light saber is almost as large as Yoda's. Much you can learn from him.
Sometimes I can be funny (rarely), and sometimes I can be offensive (mostly). I'm sorry for the reference and attack to the LDS, when the target was the troll. And I agree that "the boys" as we call them, are more then decent folk. A little persistent at times, but with a pure intent. Thanks guys for calling me on this one.

Ok then, I was going to write something serious but there's really no point cos I would have to follow that and it's never going to be that serious however hard I try!
Thank you very much to the Christian Skiier for I have learnt a few things from this post.
1) I now know what a Troll is!
2) You are a brave person with an amazing belief system which takes the ridicule out of ridicule so respect to you.
3) People in this forum are sexist cos everyone has referred to you as a man but there is no reference in your post to lead anyone to that conclusion. (If this was a cunning way to show us this then again respect to you is due.)
4) I love making lists apparently.
Right I'm done, back to work.

PS CS can you pray for some sun here about 5 ish cos I want to play golf. Thanks.
I think prayer's your best shot. The friendly BBC weatherman predicts thundery showers.
Well then I should be fine!! No need for the prayers thanks people!
Well my Mum reckons it's going to rain this afternoon too so I am not really sure about the whole golf thing but I have an umbrella so we should be alright as long as there is no ligthning!!

Ok, I have not been here in awhile and this is the first post I pick up. Since I just got home from the bar, I am jobless, and have a little humm going I feel it my civic duty to focus on the religious implications this post has brought up. his is only because C.S. was so clear to state that he/she is a christian. My comments are not ment to offend but to make you think.

No, it does not offend me, as a matter of fact the skull logo from 'O' is one of the best renditions, or characatures of a skull I have seen. And that is what it is, a CARTOON.

As a recovering Catholic I must say that you are taking things way to seriously. Skull and Cross Bones have been used throughout the ages and are more of a symbol of anarchy than anti-christianity.
If you do not like these graphics do not look a them and do not buy the product.

Are you offended by an almost completley naked Jesus on the cross? Should we just chaulk that up as pornography as well? Of course not. It is a reminder of the suffering he endured for us.
Well, that is if you belive some holy power created us instead of facing the facts and giving the credit to evolution.

Some things are best left unsaid and allow people to belive in what the want and how they want to.

Does it not offend you that the roman catholic church has shoved the vision and image of a white Jesus down our throats for centuries when in all reality Jesus was a Jew? Do not tell me he was caucasion. A man from that region and time would be of much darker skin color than that of the man depicted in the images held sacred today.

You are entitled to be offended by the images of skulls and naked women, just as I am entitled to be offended by anything I choose.

But please, get a life and focus your energies on something that matters. I am truley offended by your post and your closed conservative/christian mind. It is people like you that are destroying America and our rights for free speach, thought, expression, and most importantly the freedom of religion.

I swear to God I am an athiest.

Why don't you give this guy a break?

He makes his point and then gets attacked a hundred different ways, and then you attack him for not responding?

How many of you would respond if your very first post was answered by people suggesting you were stupid, and to get the hell out of here.

good job of driving someone away. He had exactly one post and you're ensured that he won't have many more.

With that being said, I have a real problem with these kind of religious zealots who try to force their opinion down your throat. "Believe like me or your going to hell."

But, come on, sometimes these posts go to personal attacks. My philosophy is that you can disagree but you don't have to attack.

Note Article II

The Bill of No Rights

"We, the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help
everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid any more
riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the
blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our
great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and
establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny,
guilt-ridden, deluded, and other liberal bed-wetters. We hold these truths
to be self-evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of
Rights and are so dim that they require a Bill of No Rights."

ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV or any
other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them,
but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country
is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone - not just you!
You may leave the room, change the channel, express a different opinion,
etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick
a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect the
tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently

ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans
are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone
in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after
generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than
the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be
nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in
public health care.

ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If
you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised
if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If
you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens,
don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a
place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a
life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII: You don't have the right to demand that our children risk
their lives in foreign wars to soothe your aching conscience. We hate
oppressive governments and won't lift a finger to stop you from going to
fight if you'd like. However, we do not enjoy parenting the entire world
and do not want to spend so much of our time battling each and every
little tyrant with a military uniform and a funny hat.

ARTICLE IX: You don't have the right to a job. All of us sure want all of
you to have one, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we
expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and
vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

ARTICLE X: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American
means that you have the right to pursue happiness - which, by the way, is
a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an overabundance of idiotic laws
created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

An "agenda" can be a very dangerous thing. A religious agenda can be deadly. Cast thy eyes toward the Middle East!

I have often seen religious, vested interest groups state their opinions and under great opposition fall silent, but they continue to work in the background, silently. Soon they get a quarum, petitions, lobbyists and then we are suddenly confronted with "I am offended laws", ergo political correctness, "family values" (which culture may I ask?) Soon the "I am offended ones" see their chance to shirk resposibilities for their own actions and point the finger at someone else and sue them, and get away with it.

Except at Epic, perhaps it is our fault for not fighting back in a timely manner. Many Germans laughed and scoffed at the new Nazi party as idiots, and they shrugged them off. History shows even idiots can seize power. Wasn't there a book called "Never Say It Can't Happen Here"? ... Something like that?

I will, however, invoke Voltaire, "I may disagree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death you're right to say it." Christian_skier has the right to post here as well as anyone. However, he must also accept the right of others' rebuttal, and I venture to say he should respond. Surely he feels, "What's the use? I know what the responses will be, and here they are!" Christian... you should have expected it, but you posted anyway.

I think it rather humerous what images Christians and other groups find satanic. A skull is just a skull. Wings? is there an implication that wings belong to angels and therefore should not be superimposed on skulls? Chapter and verse please... where does it say that angels have wings? If Jesus were here today (in the flesh) he probably say, "AW come on, Christian_skier... knock it off! Let's do some runs!"

Many religious groups think sex was the original sin, therefore anything of a sexual nature is a no-no! The original sin was disobediance. (And there was no mention of an apple) I mention the above items only because people such as Christian would, perhaps, try to argue those points.

If he sees some offensive (to him) items, instead of asking for a ban, he can do one of two things.... or both 1) teach his kids otherwise and teach them not to pay attention to it (Nazi Germany? Naaah) 2) Don't give it the attention these attention-getting devices want. Previous generations had theirs... long hair, pins and buttons through their cheeks and tongues, orange or blue hair. Sooner or later they all grow up and get jobs and therefore have to get straight, or relatively so. They are young. Let 'em have their fun while they can.

Hank Williams Jr. had a song with a line in it I liked.... "If you don't like it, can't you just let it pass?"

And now for some SEXY tune, a parody....

Keep your feet on your skis, keep your mind on the snow: Keep your soupy eyes on the hill ahead. We're having fun, skiing down the slow line, hugging and a kissing with Ted.... and Bob B, and Todd, and Dchan... and AC and ... <your name here>. bwahahahaha!
