This year’s Hartford Ski Spectacular was held at Breckenridge on December 3rd to the 10th. For those of us from the East Coast actual snow was a welcome sight.

The Ski Spectacular is a great event that has going on for 19 years now. It has become a premier event for adaptive skiers and instructors. Adaptive skiers, riders, racers, instructors, and their families from all over the world attend. As usual, there were many events going on.

- Learn to Ski/Snowboard - For adaptive skiers and riders wanting to learn or improve their skiing and riding.

- Learn to Nordic Ski and Level 1 Race. For adaptive Nordic skiers

- Learn to Race - For adaptive skiers that are into racing.

- Level II SL/GS Race - The US Adaptive Ski Team’s first US Race of the Season with racers from all over the world. - http://www.skiracing.com/index.php?o...77&Ite mid=34
Photos of the race. http://ussa.smugmug.com/gallery/2218465/1/115537059 Nice photos of adaptive ski racers.

- USAA Adaptive Coaches Level 1 Clinic - New this year for Coaches working with adaptive racers. - http://shop.usskiteam.com/store/prod...roductid=16386

- How to Mentor Program - New this year for people developing mentoring programs for youths with disabilities.

- Level 1 Adaptive Race – New this year.

- The Annual Corporate Ski Challenge – A fund raiser for DS/USA.

- PSIA National Adaptive Academy/Continuing Education Program – For adaptive instructors to hone their skills and learn new ideas.

DS/USA (http://www.dsusa.org/) partners with the Wounded Warrior Project and there were 60 disabled vets in attendance learning to ski or ride. They were from both the US and UK. The UK vets are part of BLESMA (British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association http://www.blesma.org/ ). Most were recently wounded in Iraq and Iran. A great bunch of men and women that weren’t letting anything keep them down.

The skiing was great. The clinics were excellent and everyone had a great time.

Here are some links to reports on the event.

On Saturday I got a chance to ski with our own ssh at Copper. I can attest that the guy can make some decent turns.

T2, it was great meeting you and finally getting to ski together. Nice of you to bring along a friend, as well! You'll need to come back to play again sometime...
