Dynastar Contact Limited

Well folks, I purchased Dynastar Contact Limited 172 which I understand was only offered in Canada. Today I got a chance to take them out and play and they do like to play. 34 deg and raining so I just ran the groomers and bumps and these skis ate it up. They love to set the edges and run a long carve but are happy with back and forth in the narrows. Easy to relax on but they insist on responding to every input. That threw me at first but then I just told them what to do and they just did it. Life is good.

Well another day another revelation.

woke up to new snow on Mt Hood and it was dry, light and drifts up to my knees. the Dynastars hated it! I fought them down two runs with the tips diving to a dead stop, even had to walk back from a little side trip. Re-adjusted the bindings back toward the heal and tried again, still wouldn't keep the tips up. Took them back to the car and put the old K2's on and rode happily through what was left. Could have used a wider ski but the K2 was enough to play with. Dynastar stays on the groomers. I should note that the Dynastar tips are much smaller then the Contact 11. 106(?) compared to the 11's 120.

Dimensions on the Contact Limited at 172 are 114-71-102.
Dimensions on the Contact 11 are 122-72-102

Dimensions on the Contact Limited 172 are 122-72-102. Contact 11 are the same skis but different graphics

The 2006 Contact Limited has 112-67-98mm sidecut.

Well I'm not certain what they are supposed to be but I bought them used and on the tail is printed: 172 114-71-102 and on the tips:Contact Limited

oh yea, they work much better when the boot is centered on the ski, gotta check those rental bindings!
enjoy

The way I understand it is that what mateyhv said is correct. The contact limited replaced the contact 11 with no changes other than the top sheet. I got this from the shop and from at least 2 Dynastar reps. I don't think the conact limited was even being made in 2006. As for the only in Canada part... I was looking at the Limited in the shop in WY back in November. The only dimension I rember for sure is the waist. It is 72, not 71 or 67

When I skied the Contact 11s 165, it was variable. I skied steep mid shin powder and crud on north faces, wind blown groomers, and crunchy moguls with powder in the troughs. I didn't think the ski dove at all and was very nimble. I also found it very stable at 165. I am 5'10" 160 lb.

I owned both, the 06 C-11 and the 07 (this years) LTD and they are identical. Just a new top sheet. Red/black and white. A great ski.

the 2007 Contact 11 and 2008 Contact Limited are the same ski with a 122-72-102mm sidecut as Finndog said.

This ski will be called the Contact 10 next year according to Dynastar.

Could they make this any more confusing for the consumer?

I think that the consumer started to figure it out, hence the need to change the C-11 to a LTd then to a C-10

Don't forget, that there was a Contact LTD sold in Canada the year before the Contact 11 was introduced in the U.S. It was the first Dybastar to have the fluid binding system although dimensions were different [ 114-71 102- if memory serves me correctly].
Now how many times has Head re-named the iXRC 1100 [ or 1200 or supershape speed, etc,].

Robscapes is correct. I have a pair of the "Canadian" ones I got from the local rep last year. They are 114-71-102. They are not the same as this year's Limited which IS the same as last year's C-11 and are 122-72-102. Don't know why they made such a limited run of the 114 ski.

They are very hard to find. After my wife bought a pair last season and raved about them forever, I tried to find a pair and could not except for an occasional pair on ebay. I wound up getting a pair of 08 Contact Ltd(same ski different graphics) at a shop in Park City(Nordas, on sale for $599) a month ago. Last I looked they still had 3 pair left and I think one was a 178. I bought 165cm(5'7" 140 lbs. aggressive skier) and LOVE them. They carve like nothing I've owned before but are also respectable in the bumps. I skied them in10" of powder and they did fine. Anything over 12" and I break out the powder boards.

I skiied the Contact Limited on 5/31/08 as a demo from the Legend Demo Center at Snowbird. Only skied a couple of groomers that day but the ski was great on those!!! I thought it was suprisingly capable in the cut up crud in Mineral Basin on the Bookends and also off of Little Cloud. Could have used wider but I thought it was a great ski and if I run across the right deal I would buy it.
The 2008 Limited is the same ski as the 2007 Contact 11. Buckwild has a pair of Contact 11 for sale at the Gear Swap.
I demo the Contact Ltd this season and liked the ski a lot. I need to try the new 4x4 before deciding to buy it though.

For clarification, is this correct? 07 Contact 11 = 08 Contact Ltd = 09 Contact 10?

yes
