Lionshead Inn/Holiday Inn Apex Vail

Anyone ever stay at either of these? They are basically the same price-- Holiday Inn Apex is a 5 minute shuttle ride, operated by Holiday Inn direct to either transportation center or Lionshead Gondola. Lionshead Inn is located in Lionshead about 150yds to Gondola.

My thoughts are go with the one that is within walking distance to skiing. Anyone have any knowledge of these two places that can offer advice?

Thanks!

If one can afford the Lionshead area, convenience says it all. Haven't seen the major new work and improvements but it has always been a great area to stay. Pray for snow!

First of all, the Holiday Inn is more like 10-15 minutes drive, depending on traffic. It is wedged in between a McD's and a 7-11. But it is very close to a Sports Authority and both Safeway and City Market supermarkets. A couple of decent bars and eateries are very close. The Half Moon Saloon gets live music some nights, Wendy's is about 5 minute walk, a decent (but over priced) Chinese place right next to City Market, Sushi is right in the Holiday Inn (not bad). Everything else, you are heading into Vail Village or Lionshead for anyway.

The Lionshead Inn is about a 5 minute walk in boots from the gondola. There are also many good restaurants very close by, and convenient shuttle buses into Vail Village (better then the West Vail buses which travel at longer intervals, all buses in Vail are free)
For breakfast, you can't beat DJ MacAdams, in Concert Hall Plaza (cash only). Moe's is awesome BBQ, right next door to DJ's. Billy's Island Bar and Grill (just down the way) is excellent for seafood and steaks, Montauk is great seafood, Bart and Yeti's has arguably the best burgers in town, the French Deli is great for lunch, but can be crowded, as its so popular!, And a few others, Flying Burrito, Garfinkel's Bar, etc...
You will pass every one of these while walking to the Gondola from the Lionshead Inn. That will give you an idea of how close they are...

My opinion as a local- Lionshead Inn, hands down!
