There is a growing thread on TGR about this. The Katana looks like it will be a cool addition to their line. Mantra gets wider. Cool.

There's some info about '08 K2 also.

man do i want them
all of them
maybe not the chick ski

is it just me or does the mantra have a full twin tip now?
no karma?

they might as well rename the Mantra the "Manga."

i'm sorry, but the graphics on that ski keep getting cheesier and cheesier.

i actually can't quite get a grasp on why the Europeans all of a sudden are so facinated with Japanese and Maori culture (Fisher's Atua series)?

I mean does Swallow skis out of Japan make a Gotterdammerung series of skis? (which if you think about it, would be much more appropriate for the Euro companies to make rather than Eastern themed skis).

Don't get me wrong, I own a pair of Mantras and Karmas, so I'm not all high and mighty PC, but they seem like really strange themes to me, especially considering the origins of the skis themselves.

Funny you should mention that. I asked the same question when this theme first started developing at Volkl. I was told that the experience of powder was "Zen Like" and therefore the Asian culture theme.

I'm not making this up..............that's what they said............:

Oh well, I have some '08 Gotamas coming and I s'pose they'll sell just fine regardless of what we might think of the graphic theme.

I can see how a bloody Samurai sword is zen-like and quickly makes me think of skiing fresh white powder.

I'm sooooo glad I have have a set of the 1st year slate-gray Mantras still in good condition - although they're so good that I'd ski them no matter what they look like.

PS. I like the looks of the new Sumo. The Katana is way too Kawasaki green however.

Same, i have the 05 mantras and love them. but i wouldent mind getting my hands on this years, stiffer and seem more durable.
Careful with them, i broke a pair first day at stowe last year, replaced free thanks to volkl. MY replacements are delaminating at the tail on one ski. Watch that on yours, ive heard its not uncommon for our ski.

still a sick fun ski

A 197cm Katana with its 111mm waist is going to be a BIG ski...

Are going to see 200+cm skis again soon? In 15 years are we going to be talking about those silly 205cm, 100+mm wide planks we rode on back in the late '00's?

Guess if I am going to pick up a pair of Karmas I better do it quick! Also have a pair of first year Gotamas that I am going to need to replace, but I think the graphics this year are alot better.

I'm pretty sure the Karma will be around next year. That was SOME of next years Volkls, not ALL of next years.

How often does anyone see new graphics and immediately like them? These freeride skis are being sold to people who want to be SEEN, so skis that scream "Look at ME" are good marketing for the Volkl brand. I think they look pretty good.

No one has mentioned the Marker 'Duke' AT binding, you guys aren't paying attention at all, are you?!! (I know you're all painfully CHEAP, but I thought you'd be willing to pay attention to next years gear!) DIN 6-16 low stack height, pseudo rotomat heel, looks good.
