Me and my family always bought Descente gear for skiing. I guess it is an European thing. In the 90's we bought Descente jackets that were very colorfull and Nevika shell bibs. In the last few years I started to pay attention to what people wear and found myself and my family almost the only ones with colorfull Descente gear, unless i saw a European or Asian folks skiing here on vacation with bright colors like ours, sounds funny I know. Descente jackets and bibs are top notch quality product gear, so is Spyder. They both use this soft whaterproof material unlike North Face that use Gore-Tex, which is harder and rougher. Don't get me wrong North Face is top quality product too, just different construction. So I wanted to shop for new jacket and mid level gear. I am keeping my Nevika 10 year old $450 shell bibs, they are great and still like new. But my colorfull Descente has to go. I went on Descente website and realized their style has changed and it is more modern and use normal colors like black, grey, olive and red which are great. Spyder is nice too, but a bit too flashy. North Face I always kind of assosiated with bubble jackets, fleece jacket and mountain climbing gear, but not skiing, but they have very plain style and colors and made quality, so I am also considering it. There is also others, like Rossignol, Marker, Obermeyer that I saw for sale. After reading forums I decided to go with shell jacket and 2 mid levels, T-Neck and fleece underneath?! So what do you guys think is the most popular, versatile (can wear it ouside the mountain), well made brand for jackets and bibs for skiing these days?
