Quick before I book this trip.

Whats your thoughts on flying into SLC on MLK(Jan 15) day and skiing Tuesday-Friday(Jan16-19)??????

Crowds?
Snow?

It will only cost me 3 days vacation time instead of 5!!!!!!!Thats one of the main reasons for that week....

Is anybody out there.

Depends on where you want to go. You're screwed if you haven't got anywhere booked for Park City areas yet. That's right in the teeth of Sundance. That also causes significant spillover into just about everywhere else, too. Also, SLC has a few Sundance venues that cause it to be pretty crowded.

I hear there's some good snow in Colorado.

Want to stay downtown and Ski; Solitude, Brighton, Snowbird, and Alta....

Then the answer to your only two (kind of) questions are: 1) Yes, there will be crowds, and 2) yes, there will be snow.

Have fun.

What do you US guys'n'gals mean by the term 'downtown'?

snow should not be an issue, but it will be crowded. mlk weekend always is, but the mountain guides should be able to point you to trails less traveled.
also, be warned; all the ski clubs from texas will be in party city then; so park city may run out of beer.

You know by the Temple and around the corner from the Liquor Store.

Dowtown is generally the business part of the city and usually the oldest part of the city where the town square is located.

Not getting there until MLK day and skiing the 4 days following.....

Have been there twice during that week and it shouldn't be bad crowd wise in either LCC or BCC on your dates.

The only caveat is I don't know what the local school holidays are this year, but I'm sure you can find the info online. Have fun!!!

Typically refers to the center of an urban metropolitan area. Some large urban metropolitan areas have generally recognized "districts" or areas, e.g., San Francisco has the "Financial District," the "Mission District," etc. which refer to discrete geographic areas of the urban core. London, to provide an example more close to home, also has definable and nominal areas, e.g., South Kensington, Marble Arch, Hyde Park, etc.

However, many U.S. urban areas are simply an amalgam of office buildings, hotels, civic offices, and higher density dwelling encircled by suburbs. Salt Lake City is a prime example of such an area. Phoenix, Arizona too. The "downtown" areas of those cities simply refers to the area where the living areas are most-dense and the office buildings are most prevalent.

Cheers.

I will be in town the same week. Every ski resort will be crowded on that monday (holiday) but the rest of the week should not be too bad in LCC and BCC. The PC area will be slammed b/c of Sundance.

Try snowbasin/powder mtn on monday and saturday/sundays. They will be far less crowded than any other resorts in UTAH. Trust me.

Enjoy and pray for lots of snow

Booked the trip to SLC Flying in Jan 15.......

Skiing Jan 16, 17,18, and 19

Heading out on Jan 20th....

Plan on hitting up Solitude, Snowbird, Alta, and Brighton...Probablly in the order. Might taylor it to snow or crowds. Booked the Ski Salt Lake Pass.

Here is the big question. Busses and Rail are good for the days you ski, but the first day you ski, how in the am I supposto use the bus??? You are supposto redeem your voucher at 1 of the 4 resorts. If I havent been to the resort yet how does this work?????

Also when I rent the ski's on Jan 15 were can I go to get a pass to use the bus or rail for 1 day so I can pick my ski's up. I wanted to rent from Breeze, but they are south of downtown, or if you guys know of a good ski shop clost to the Temple were I can get some Apache Recon's or comparable for a good price. Maybe a taxi service the allows ski's????

Sorry for all the questions I need to everything figured out by Jan 15th. I will probablly call the Ski Salt Lakes Customer Service Line, but any help you guys give me will be great!!!!!

I had that same question. I called ski salt lake - they are the ones that work this deal. They said that the first day as you are boarding the bus you show them your confirmation print out sheet and you're all set.

I for one, will make sure I have three dollars in my pocket in case that does not work.

That funny....I am from Austin too. Maybe that helps you place that I am a Texas State Bobcat graduate. Maybe we can get together and ski a few runs and then drink a couple beers.

Let me know. There will be 7-8 of us from UT grad school heading up there for a "conference", eeerrrrrr...chance to ski without the wives knowing.

We have free passes for PCMR on Saturday, so we'll most likely hit Main St. that evening. On Wednesday, we'll do the Quickstart free pass at DV most likely. On Thurs or Fri, we'll head to the powder, most likely Alta.

Shoot me a PM to exchange info.

>we'll head to the powder, most likely Alta.
you'll need it to snow in the past day or so or there will be no powder!

Sundance starts on the 18th this year. Although Park city gets pretty crowded, the slopes aren't bad at all [even in Park City]. You'll be surprised how easy it will be to ski the 4 Cottonwood resorts. The snow should be great at all of them. ENJOY!
I'm heading to the Park City area from the 17-23 with some friends. I have heard the slopes are not to bad during Sundance, so I am looking forward to that, as my primary motive for this trip is to ski. My friends on the other hand, want to do all that movie/movie star crap, their loss.

We did however, book a lot of dinner reservations way in advance as a result of Sundance. I also booked transportation to and from the airport in advance as well. I would def. try to do that now if you are planning to do either.
Hit up the Cottonwood Canyons during that time. The crowds will be way lower and the snow will be better. The snow is always good there, so no reason to worry about that.

when sundance is in town, the resort are not that much buiser. people are trying to sell thier films to the big studios. There for bars and resturants are more crowded than the trails. The resorts never expect a huge increase in their #'s that week.
You should be fine.
