Solden, Austria Input

We will be sking the Solden area this Christmas. I do know that the snow is real scarse in the Alps so far, but are visiting our son who lives close to their and will want to ski at least some.

It seems like a somewhat obscure area -- Has anyone skied it and could give me a little idea of what it is like.

I skied there a few years ago when the snow was limited elsewhere and I remember some big wide cruisers where you can really open it up. The road up from the valley was something. Tons of switchbacks- the brakes were smoking on the way down! I think you can park in the valley and take the cable car up.

The Alps are starting to shape up a little with cold temperatures at the moment, so lots of snowmaking happening. Hopefully the real stuff starts flying soon. Near Innsbruck is the Zillertal region which looks good up high right now. Also the Stubai (sp?) glacier is a good bet. The Zugspitze above Garmisch is OK, but the lower lifts have not opened yet.

Have fun-
