Steamboat: Welcome to the Family!

Just received this from Copper PR:

Today, I have the distinct pleasure to announce that Intrawest has
signed a purchase and sale agreement to acquire Steamboat Ski & Resort
Corporation in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

This transaction marks the resurgence in our strategy to grow through
acquisitions and it also represents another milestone in our long-term
strategy to develop, market, operate and provide our customers with
access to the world's premier network of experiential destination

Steamboat's iconic brand and legendary ski and snowboard terrain will be
a proud new addition to our portfolio of world-class resorts. Nearly 70
Olympians hail from Steamboat, and no other town in North America has
produced more Winter Olympians. The readers of SKI Magazine recently
named Steamboat as the #1 Family Resort in the West the fourth
consecutive year. These impressive accolades speak to the core of the
Steamboat experience and to the power of the Steamboat brand.

Steamboat will be part of the Mountain Resort division in Intrawest
which is headed up by Hugh Smythe, and Steamboat's management team will
report to David Barry, Intrawest's Chief Operating Officer in the United

We look forward to working with the entire Steamboat team and the local
community of Steamboat Springs throughout the 2006/07 ski season to
learn more about the resort's unique culture and traditions, and to gain
an understanding for any future development requirements.

The closing of the acquisition is expected to take place by the end of
the 2006/07 ski season. In the meantime, it is business as usual for the
resort, and we will keep you updated as the acquisition process moves

I look forward to welcoming the employees and senior management at
Steamboat to the Intrawest family.

I started my time in Steamboat the season after ASC bought the place. What a cluster that was.

Low on funds? Sell the spare parts for the lifts. Lift breaks down and needs the part? Pay 5 times what you got for the one you sold because it needs to be express shipped from Europe.

Having been to a variety of ASC and Intrawest resorts, I think that Intrawest is preferable.
