Inbound avy reported at Big Sky by a someone who is also a member here. I will let him decide if he wants to put his name on it. Pretty amazing for this early in the year, and thankfully no one hurt.
|Yup, there was a pretty big inbounds slide at Big Sky today. Open run off of Challenger lift (Highway) 100' wide, 1-3' deep. Skier triggered. The skier cut in near some rocks, hit the right spot and boom! 2 snowboarders who were below were carried for a couple of hundered feet. One was buried to his waist. Damn lucky. Damn spooky. Only a few inches of new snow in the last 36 hrs with strong winds. This area has been open for about a week.
The A/C we did on the other side of the ridge yielded few results, mostly new snow slides 4-6" deep. When the control team got back down and compared notes, everyone thought there was a weird element to the snow and that it wasn't worth opening Headwaters. It remained closed for the day.
The prognosis for the week is sunny and cool. Maybe another shot at storms early next week. It is going to be a rough Christmas.
