I'm interested in buying an avy beacon for the first time. I only venture out of bounds a few times each year, but I think it's finally time to pony up for my own gear, rather than always borrowing from a guide. The need for my own gear has become more acute since even some in-bounds runs (for example at Big Sky) now require you to check out with the ski patrol and have avy gear. I've had some training and pieps drill practice, but am not an advanced beacon user, so I'm looking for something simple, accurate and reliable. I had been eyeing the Ortovox X1. Any advice as to models, digital vs. analog, etc?
