Jay's a long drive from just about anywhere, but it's my favorite spot in the east, and definitely an easy place to ski & stay on a budget. They're always running Ski & Stay deals @ Hotel Jay which is at the base of the tram. Just outside of the area is the Snowline Lodge which is reasonably priced, and a 5 minute drive from the Mtn. Next step down would be staying in Newport. It's a 30 min drive, but there are few budget lodging choices. For the tightest budgets, Grandpa Grunts is at the bottom of 242 in Montgomery Center (about a 15 min drive). It's very basic lodging, but it's very cheap. I've only walked thru the place, but it's dealable as long as it's just 'the guys'. I tried staying there once in college with my girlfriend (now my wife) and when got into our room, the bed hadn't been made. She made me say something, and the guy was like 'Ya know what, I've got a house down the road that I rent out but is empty this weekend. As long as it's just the two of you, and you don't bring anyone over, you can have it for the same price.' Ended up staying in a nice 3br house with a whirlpool bath and fire place for something like $30 a night!

The other trick @ Jay that I used to pull in college was stocking up on Canuck Cash before heading out. Not sure if they still do, but they used to take it at par with US money, getting you an even better deal on your lift ticket.

If you goto Jay and want a great meal or drinks, hit the Belfry on 242. It's not that cheap, but it's a cool spot and the food's awesome.

If you look around a bit, there are a few ski club/hostel type places (pretty sure there's one near Rutland that would make a decent home base for K-Mart or Okemo) that are basically big rooms with lots of bunk beds too. Obviously, it's very inexpensive to stay in one of these places.

The best deal I have found is the ASC pass, if you buy it through Attitash, you don't pay sales tax.

Price Choppers sell a killington ticket which is like 3 days for 129$ no saturdays. They have some other tickets as well but not sure for what mountains.

Mobil's still running their discounted ticket deal (been going for the last 10 years, at least) where you can get a voucher for discounted tickets with the reciepts from 3 purchases of 8 gallons or more. When I was in college, I used to have my parents collect all of their reciepts and send them to me. I think the promo is called "Ski Three" or something similar. The tickets are good @ Killington & Mt. Snow, so I'd assume it's an ASC wide-deal (or maybe just eastern ASC mountains.)
