I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but my estimate would be that we need 60-80" of new snow to open the off-piste skiing on the lower part of the mountain. I was skiing (on the manmade snow) today and the lower faces are flat-out BARE in places.
As for Cody, several things are in play there. IF the ski corp opens the East Ridge chair while you're here and IF they also open the out-of-bounds gates, I suspect that that you would be welcome to go anywhere you like. The problem there is that once you leave those south OB gates, the ONLY way (other than hiking back up to Rendezvous Bowl) to get out is to ski down 4,000+ vertical feet to the bottom of the Hobacks. Of that 4,000 vertical, the lower half is virtually unskiable right now. All I can tell you is that I've done that kind of thing before and I don't need to ever do it again.
Pray for snow.
