My point exactly, Stoweguy. It's not the town or the mountain I have a problem with, it's the people who run it. They let that mountain go for years without making any improvements, while charging some of the highest ticket prices in the country to boot. Now, they're making all of these so called improvements under the guise of trying to improve the skiing experience, when all they are really trying to improve is their bottom line. They have practically ruined Spruce Peak in the process. What a coincedence that they replaced the old double chair that went to the top with a new high speed quad in one of the most unlikely places on the mountain, only to find out that that is where all their high priced condos are going to be. And in the process, they eliminated the top part of Spruce, not to mention the access trail that leads to Smuggler's and back, truly one of the most unique skiing experiences in New England. I'll always remember traversing across Sterling Pond in order to get back to Stowe from Smuggs. Too bad no one else will get a chance to do it. Main Street used to be another unique skiing experience, but probably a little too unique for their taste, so they went and bulldozed it so now it is just like every other typical ho hum trail. And they went to the trouble of putting this much ballyhooed automated snowmaking system in, but never seem to want to use it. I question whether or not it really works at all. I went up there one weekend last year after they were advertising 28 inches of snow that week, went up to the top of Main Street, and there is a sign warning of thin cover. Go figure. And in the meantime, the rest of the mountain that could really use the upgrade as far as the lodge and lifts just sits there. And the dealings that I've had with management up there have not been pleasant. These people are not locals, they are hired guns brought in with little regard for the town or the history of the place. Maybe I'm all wrong, maybe there's a master plan at work here that I'm not seeing, but what I've seen so far, I don't like. And I'm sure someone that doesn't agree with me would say "if you don't like it, don't go there anymore." Bingo.
