I don't think this new "stay in the bunkhouse with the other kids" mandate is coming from the coaches...I'd say it's likely that it's coming from Marolt and above...and it's why, although I'm going to continue to pay for a USSA license so I can race Masters, I'm done donating money to the USST.
If you saw Bode's video explanation of why
it's good for him to get more sleep so he can win more races on the Ski Racing
website, his response was pretty even, rational, and professional. I'm getting really tired
of this All American attitude on the part of the USST, among others, that says "Winning isn't the important thing...it's the only
thing...but you have to have to do it according to our
rules." As a Vietnam era vet, this is a particularly
sore point with me.
Bode's far from perfect...but who isn't? We're talking about a choice he'd like to make that'll let him get the rest he needs to win races, for God's sake. It's not like he just got arrested for any number of felony offenses...something that routinely happens in professional football, baseball, and basketball, and nobody
blinks when these guys are out on bail tomorrow...because there's a big game coming up, and we need these guys...and winning is what counts, right?
