Summer storage woes, fears, and questions

Ive heard that you should put a heavy coat of warm wax on your skis before you store them away for the summer, and well thats what ive done but it leaves me worried. It just seems like the wax is going to eat away at my skis or i wont be able to scrape it off come winter, should i be worried about this or what?? I also took some long soccer socks and put one on the tip and one on the tail and they meet in the center and pretty much cover the entire ski, i did this jsut for added protection...is this a good idea or is something horrible going to happen to my skis? (which i doubt..) Also, is there a specific temperature or location that is ideal for storing skis? Right now i have them in the basement but once it starts to get humid i have a feeling that the edges are going to rust or are going to grow mildew...the main floor has no room but the temperature and humidity seem ideal, the top floor gets pretty hot sometimes pushing 95-100 which makes it seem like a bad place for a winter item...any ideas or suggestions would be great!
thanks

There have been several discussion on summer storage. Here are links to some of them.

The consensus seems to be to wax but don't scrape, and keep them from moisture to prevent rust, keep from high heat to prevent delams/warpage. (THat takes care of your attic query)

Back off the DIN of the bindings if you normally have them cranked, but take them into a shop for a reset & testing in the fall.

FWIW, my local ski shop does an end of season tuneup and wax, leaving them unscraped and they turn the binding DIN down. Then, in the fall they take them back and finish the tuneup and reset&test the bindings. Costs the same as thier usual tuneup.
