What do all y'all use for rock skis?

Also, on a similar note, I've seen the term "billy goat skis"...is that just referring to rock skis, but perhaps ones that are going to be used more for insane rocky chutes and BC adventures?

the second question was: are billy goat skis the same as rock skis?

and for the record, I don't currently have any rock skis. Found some old RD Coyotes for $50 that I might consider or I'd have to remount some old Rossi recreational skis from forever and a day ago...

Whatever's new will be a rock ski by the end of spring...

All skis are rock skis.

I have a pair of 177cm Rossignol RPM-21s I use for rock skis. They are the Bandit XX with a GS plate on them and were totally mismarketted since the resulting ski had to be skied short.....Rossignol sent all the ski magazines longer lengths for their tests. They do great on both groomers, crud and a few inches of powder.

K2 Axis XR's, or my oldest pair of SL:11.12s.

Rock skis were cheap skis that you didn't care too much about so you could risk getting a few gouges in them. The could be DH race skis or SL skis or anything in between.

To me billy goat skis were for skiing slowly on very steep terrain making lots of little turns, hopping from ledge to ledge, something like the terrain you might only expect to see a mountain goat on.

sadly, after riding Alpine Meadows this morning, I think my Karmas from last season (which only saw about 5 days of riding) are my rocks skis.

I put some decent gouges on the bases and the edges got nicked something fierce. No core shots, which is nice.

still, they'll need a little lovin' from the shop guys soon.

Sounds like just a grind so far to fix the edges.

Wait until we get a good base before getting them worked on. Get all the little early season gouges fixed in one shot.

My rock skis: one for soft snow and one for hard snow.

Hope you're taking the Rossi's to AM!

BTW, what are those Rossi's underfoot?

I found a stash of new older Bandits and if the price is right, might just snag a pair and make my designated rockers.

The black and white one's are 90mm. The Red & Black XXX were a little narrower.

The little black ones in the pic are already have some fresh grooves from last weekend.

Whatever my previous pair of skis was. I only really ski one pair, but if I am expecting rocks I drag out the old skis.
