I grew up with steele spence
Knew Peter Olenick for a couple years in high school.
Skied a few hours with Tommy Moe; one of my coaches knew him I guess, although I never said a word to him, because I was one of about 15 kids in that group, and well, at that age I was more concerned with having fun than meeting some old fart.
Skied behind Chris Davenport for a half a run. He must of thought I was a werido, cus I followed him for a while. I had actually planned that route beforehand, to get speed to hit a little air, but it was cool to see him end up hitting the exact same feature.
Ridden the chairlift with klaus Obermyer a couple times.
Met Chris Klug a couple times, don't really know him, but his sister is really nice (no, I'm not implying anything, sickos)
I waxed Pep Fujas' skis, which I am sorry to say, probably contributed to him not doing too well in the X Games Slopestyle last year.
Living in Aspen, its actually way more common to run into "normal" celebrities.
I have met:Jack Black
(no thats not his real name)Melanie Grifith
went to school with her son, they are both incredibly nice down to earth people. Will Smith
(loud obnoxious douche)Jada Pinket
(however you spell it, she was not hot at all)Kate Moss
(not hot, looked like a 50 year old cokehead, as opposed to the 30something year old cokehead she actually is)Nelson Mandella
(yea, I know you want to touch me, he gave a speech at my middle school, which seemed really random, but I guess he was in town for something else (at the aspen institute) and decided to make an impact on some kids. he had a hell of a sense of humor too, one funny man. the sad part was most of my classmates had no idea who he was)Mel Gibson
ok, not really, but I went to school with his kid, who was an arrogant prick.Ron Popeil
(the late night culinary infomercial guy, i gew up with his daughter)The Keyboardist from Huey Lewis and the News
can't even remember his name, but I met him at a huanika (sp?) party, and played guitar with him for a while, and I'm not even Jewish.Chuck Yeager
Arrogant loser, always has to be the center of attention. Little story, a guy my dad knows is an aviation photog. One thing he does is make calenders of old warbirds, mostly WWII era planes. The only plane he ever featured twice was the British Supermarine Spitfire. I guess Yeager wrote him some nasty letter telling him he was unpatriotic, because the spit was british. Whatever.
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, and I have also seen many others, without meeting them, including Cindy Crawford (was staring at her legs long before I knew who she was)
Some celebrities are really cool people, like jack black or mandella, others act like complete idiots. Not really all that different from non famous people actually.
EDIT: How could I forget, I touched Martine Hingus' (sp?) silver medal, after she got back from whatever olympics she won it at. It was really cool, she was just wearing it around, showing it off, but not in an arrogant way at all, just really happy and really stoked, wanting to share her excitement with whoever would talk to her.
EDIT AGAIN: Went to school with Don Johnsons son. he was a arrogant prick, but hey, I guess a lot of us were less than well adjusted in high school.
ok, i promise I won't edit this again in two second when I remember someone else. Unless, they're really noteworthy that is.
