Deadhead K2's

Anybody own a pair of the Grateful Dead K2s?

If you do, do you/did you ski them or are they mounted on the wall with your Fillmore West posters?
Dude -- they're just Enemies with burnout graphics.

Really? The only ones I saw were much older than Enemys. I would guess K2 5500. Did they come out with more recent GD models?

Does that mean you ski yours, or hang them on the wall?

The ones I stumbled upon were long (at least 200cm) and dark green/black with green roses/flowers and the dead logo at the tip.

Remember the Mickey Mouse skis? Probably the same era.

I think I used to know what they were, but don't remember.
5500 sounds plausible -- I don't think they were 710's.

Yeah, I bought my girl friend the Mickey 5500. Not the one with what looked like pieces of film with frames and sprocket holes. Just lots of Mickey Mouse faces on it.

Mickey's were TRC's if I recall.

funny y'all should bring up the MM skis.

the shop with the Dead k2 also had a pair of Mickey skis (i think it was the Mickey from the Sorcerer's Apprentice). but they were short, so i figured they were meant to be kid's skis.

I guess once they licensed the image, they made lots of different MM skis. The ones we are talking about (me at least) had a white background with a lot of stylized Micky heads four or five inches across in (I think) a bunch of different colors.

My local ski shop has a pair hanging over the stairs -- I'll look closer next time I'm there.

Not the ones I bought. They had at least two different Mickey graphics (adult skis) which may have been different skis under the topskins.

I remember the kid's Sorceror's Apprentice skis, too.

The ones at mdf's shop sounds like what my friend had.

OK, I could be wrong about 5500 vs, TRC. Found this on-line:

"They made Mickey Skis for adults for three years. the first year looked like a film reel, the second year was that which is in the auction in this thread, and the third year had sketches of mickey with teal and red highlighting. The skis themselves were the K2 TRC comp, which was an advanced intermediate ski. I know all this because I worked at a shop which sold them, and I own a pair of the last years versions myself."

I'm pretty sure the salesman told me they were K2 5500.

There were at least three different GD skis as well, the 'best' of which was the Jerry Launcher, an AK Launcher with Jerry Garcia graphic.

One the local ski shops has a pair of them. I asked them about them and was told that they were not for sale. These were older skis that had never even had bindings mounted on them. They have alot of detail and are really cool looking. They were set out with all the other skis so I'm sure they would sell them if offered enough money.

I misspoke.

First, I thought you meant the Jerry Launchers, but it now sounds like you may be talking about other skis.

Second, as should be obvious, the Jerry Launchers were not Enemies with burnout topsheets, but Lawnchairs with burnout topsheets.

K2 does a great job with their product, but an awful job with the people they sponsor.

I have fuzzy memories of K2 Comps with Dark Star graphics. Never owned any though.
I have a pair of them in a corner of my basement. They are a '92 K2 TNC 204cm with a mostly black dead graphic on them. Supposedly they were some sort of fundraiser for a wildlife charity. They have some sort of black cat on them.

There were other versions - a dark star graphic comes to mind.

Hi all, saw your discussion on the grateful dead skiis.  I actually own a pair in original plastic wrap never used. K2s 190's  Dark star on them with roses and a steal your face. Entire ski is dark purple/black with roses. I am looking to sell them.  Interested email me savagenc72@msn.com.

I love how Pro-American this video is (and how post-ironic now that K2 are made "overseas"). That said, they appear to have been the pioneers inb music/skiing integration (these days Head has Motorhead skis, but I think that may be it other'n K2's Iron Maiden sticks).

wonder what happened to the Bob Marley boards? (apparently Burton makes one these days).

I have a pair in 190 that I bought for my wife.

They are rebadged K2 5500's.

They have been skiied but the graphics are good.

Any interest?

My approach is simply to put a small GD sticker on each ski.
