HI all!!

To you folks with recent ACL surgery (I'll be 8 monts out Dec 4th), have you been cleared to ski yet?? I have not - what the....?? Even with the brace...... :

I was cleared to ski at my 6 mos appointment. I skied the first time at the 8 mos mark, Nov. 1 and without a brace.

Throughout my injury MCL/ACL I rode my bike on the indoor trainer, was allowed outdoors at 4.5 months, without clipless pedals, and logged close to 3,000 miles outdoors.

Jen: This is odd. It is usually 6 months out. Are you still having range of motion issues or pain?

The only thing I can say is that last year, I did not enjoy the early season conditions when I was 8 months post op. Perhaps it is for the best..

I have full ROM and no swelling.....some pain where the screw is at times....

At my last burst test (where I kick into a robotic fixed arm & get shocked with electricity) my right leg is stronger but since my left leg is ALSO stronger - the ratio between the 2 is still pretty wide - thus my right leg is still only 80% as strong as my left....

I'm also at just about 8 months, and I was cleared at about five. my rebuilt leg is still about 3 - 4 cm smaller than the healthy leg.

Hmmmmm.....

The PT people gave me a report for me to take with me on Friday when I see my orthopedist, so I'll ask him.....

I was cleared at 7 months. ACL & MCL complete tear. I bought my passes at 4 months out. To save at pre season rates, bought new skis at 6 months out.

I guess I was optomistic.

Should be able to try it by the end of next week.

Feels good. The only thing I can't do is kneel on hard pavement with it.

My 6 month appointment (post allograft) is 12/18, I'll post then. I'd be real surprised, based on progress reports and promises to date, if I'm not cleared to ski with the brace, perhaps with some limitations (i.e. stay on groomers for awhile). The rebuilt leg is a little bigger now, no pain except sometimes walking down stairs.

My wife who had ACL surgery in March IS cleared to ski, with the brace but no bumps or trees for the first season.

I figured I'd have to wear the brace, but I don't get why I can't ski yet....

How is the strength of your knee? Are you still in rehab?

I was officially cleared at 6 months, although I think started skiing before I was cleared and without a brace. I exercised daily, doing a lot of time on the exercise bike and a lot of weight training prior to and after surgery.

I go back to the PT clinic every month or so to get tested - the burst test......My leg got strong enough that I grew out of physical therapy so I've been lifting on my own......

Dr. told me today no skiing till I'm 90%.....
